Very wise words. I like it very much to hear and read Professor Dever. It is because of scholars like him that I became interested in the history of the Bible. In fact, I bought his last book (Beyond the Texts) online yesterday, and I can't wait for it to arrive to Chile....

Excellent presentation. It's about time we get an actual history that includes the archaeological findings. I look forward to reading this book.

The problem with 'house of David' is it does not say 'house of King David'. So it still isn't quite the proof needed.
@Mauromoustakos3 жыл бұрын
We do not say "house of Aristos" if Aristos is a shepherd.

Context and usage tell the tale.

His research is interesting, but his knowledge about American Politics is beyond his area of study. I think he should stick to what he know and keep political comments out of his presentations it would make him sound more authoritative.

He's speaking as a private citizen when he does that, not as an authority on American politics. You just disagree with his political views, so you dismiss his authority/expertise on his chosen field.

he doesn't see the irony, he talks about the biases of the Biblical writers, the main bias is in fact this 'lecture'. Amazing he knows more about what happened over 2,000 years than the people alive at the time. this talk is assumption and speculation.
@pwoods1004 жыл бұрын
Well, he's right - the biblical writers were biased. And I'm reading his book "Beyond the Texts" right now and nowhere does he ever claim that he knows more than ancient people did. In fact, quite the opposite.

He knows what he's talking about; he is objective and intellectually honest. You should sit down.

Said a whole lot of nothing. There is tons of evidence found of the exodus.

Archaeology truly is an enforcement of biblical events, but Faith is a derivative of the Holy Spirit in whom the Father chooses to reveal by the in dwelling Spirit of the Son to be a son, The Father expressed hear His Son, the gun bearers are still yet to hear this message, intellectual understanding will also bear doubt to the supply of not complete belief that reflects in Trust, a non prayerful study will also add to doubt. We have been given what we have been given Deut 29:29 "The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. Acts 5:32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him."

so, after all this proof and much more out there you still believe.. cognitive dissonance is real

Quote: "We already understand the biblical text very well indeed....." No, not quite, and further proof that 10/20/50 years of work means nothing.
