I've said it many times...in today's tourneys, anybody can win at any time, any body of water...Skills, talents, and techniques are no longer required....today's winners 1) home lake, already know areas to start which saves alot if time..FFS does the rest....game over 2) the angler that's fortunate enough to idle of the "winning" type of fish...only reason every angler isn't catching 30 lbs. a day, is they just aren't locating them quick enough 3) anglers with the financial capability of buying 10's of thousands on electronics, while having little talent/skills in bass fishing

@horbie5039 your definitely right. I understand this is Randy's job, and I would definitely be frustrated if my profession was under attack. I personally have a livescope, but I find myself going back to what my old man taught me more than watching the screen. I am definitely turned off when I watch the fishing tournaments, and it looks like a navy destroyers navigational system on the front of a 22ft Skeeter, but even the Kayak tournaments have forward facing sonar. I just don't think it will ever be like the old days unless someone starts a new tournament series banning it or electronics altogether.

I personally agree with Randy’s video 100% Maybe solution could be to have a specific chip in the electronics that only works in that one specific serial numbered unit that is pulled out during the official days of tournament. Hate to break it to you Randy, but catching bass isn’t all that hard, even without FFS. It’s just that when 200-500 boats converge on a public impoundment for multiple tournaments, it sucks for us recreational guys that go out and fish for the fun of it on any given weekend and have to deal with a bunch of wanna-be KVDs. If FB is any indication, I think fishing in general is in big trouble. There seems to be more and more "fisherman" who just treat the lakes and rivers as a grocery. They openly brag about never buying a fishing license, and keeping everything they catch. Couple that attitude with all of the new technologies, and I don't see how some of the fisheries survive.

Best solution is for adjusting tournament fishing rules to only allowing very basic electronics that give basic depth readings and water temperature readings along with perhaps the ability to save gps coordinates so an angler can return to a place he fished in practice on tournament days. I never really understood the need for tournaments decades ago to raise the outboard horsepower ratings/limits from 150 hp to the 250hp maximum level either. Just makes the anglers more unsafe running at faster speeds along with greatly increasing the cost of the boat/outboard package.

I don’t mind there being premium model 110k boats but there are hardly any glass boats under 60 that are 19’ plus

Seems like I have heard part of that reason is related to your content. I don't know if that's true. But a lot of anglers say it. I can say some of your arguments have good intentions and are fairly accurate. But some of these days out here just luv to toss blame on anyone & apparently you seem to be a big target for those folks. But fishing has certainly changed. But it don't matter now! FFS etc is a thing, and it isn't going anywhere. Despite the fact many anglers do not like it .... or the "live coverage " or recorded content. Most folks wanna see guys actually fishing. Not just staring at a screen for 6 hrs. And I must agree, not exactly entertaining. And perhaps! It allows anglers with less mastery of certain techniques to excel where they wouldn't have before. As someone who grew up dreaming about being a professional baseball player I understand the importance of the sacrifice, dedication, and struggle you have to go through. I thought about trying out the tournament fishing deal because I love to compete, never did it because I felt like it was something that was priced at a point that made it impossible for any average person to make it. I grew up poor and still had two tryouts with Atlanta and one with Kansas City. Is there anything similar in fishing????

Have camp on Toleto Bend big lake seperates Louisiana and Texas. Sometime feel like goast town. I fly fish Bass catch and release. You would not imagine how many bass I catch the are messed up hoop still in , gougers It is bsd. I fish a creek out of kayake and catch great white and brean ( crappy?) Randy I see your point but there are alot of guys doing other things. A lot of guys are fishing pretty shallow in the morning sitting in deeper water and casting into 2-3 feet and I see as many folks looking off the side waiting for blow ups as I do looking at their screens. This includes Patrick Walters the leader who appears to be throwing a combination of stuff at different depths some dirt shallow. Later on in the day they back out and scope or stay in and sight fish but most of the activity is the morning herring bite

The time you need to Locate a group of (larger) fish is So MUCH connected to the SIZE of THE LAKE you're fishing and the SIZE of the POPULATION that is swimming in the lake. I see similar issues with pro fishing and pro golf. Golf technology has advanced on many fronts from the ball to clubs and radar range finders so much so that new rules will require range limiting balls and clubs characteristics limited so golf courses are not obsolete. It is a much radical change to pro fishing with FFS. If the FFS manufactures would ban together and build FFS with full capability for normal fisherman and a required tournament mode for the pros it would bring back some integrity to the sport. FFS or new technology is not going away. Baseball does the same thing by not allowing aluminum bats.

One thing that never gets brought up with the golf analogy is that a lot of golfers don’t just have a golf coach anymore. They will also utilize a personal trainer to develop a training regimen that can greatly benefit them on the course. Being able to train athletically in a way that is TaylorMade (pun intended) for your sport makes a huge difference! It’s not all in the technology.

Bass fishing sounds like what happened in the bowling industry when they approved on easing up the lane conditions so that anybody that played up the 2nd arrow had it made. It turned 180 average bowlers into 200+ average bowlers and now they thought they were pros. The pro bowlers tour now became a "sport"(which bowling is not a sport)that instead of making a check or the TV show while averaging 210 you're going home because you missed the qualifying cut. I could go on and on about Randy.

Seems to me that if you have all that talent in fishing. Reading an actual map, determining what lure is working. Determining the best location for the conditions of the water and weather. Then you should still be competitive. As far as the prices of boats and tow vehicles. When Forest Wood introduced the Ranger Bass boat the price of boats went up because suddenly nobody was using a old jon boat and sitting in the back of the boat holding a tiller on the outboard... then came trolling motors.. and then came fish finders... then came graphs.... and Pro Anglers towed with Surburbans which at the time were expensive vehicles.. but now the automotive industry has all vehicles expensive...and boat manufacturers have raised the price of boats as well and then Pro Anglers added wraps and sponsors on their boats and tow vehicles.... Plus sponsors provide professional Anglers a new boat every year. Then with sponsors came expensive rods reels and lures.. then fishing lines changed.... with all that the sport grew from small entry fees and winning purses to large fees and purses... tossing a bouy to mark a spot. Changed to spot lock and gps guided trolling motors... sleeping in the back seat of your Surburban or a low cost lake side hotel prearranged for all the Anglers to stay in. Or heaven forbid a tent.. to airb&b's and having a rig towing a 5th wheel and a rig towing the boat... and the angler flying in to the tournament... PROGRESS IS INEVITABLE...

YES it is... CORRECT.😅😅 But the RATE that this growth (which ALMOST has to be Exponential) is killing. People and fish populations ☝️ The size of this is [To MUCH], A boat with trailer, a tow truck with petrol in the tank, electronic/ rods&reels/ lures (equipment) furthermore entry fees, maintenance of truck+trailer+boat, insurance of them 3 items AND yourself (medical assistance). This quickly adds up to a huge amount for an individual competitor. The IMPACT is overloading Nature, Sport, People is the message.

It's funny you mention that, because if the internet headlines are true, Scott Martin was disqualified at one of the 500 tournaments held each month in Florida. Now, what exactly does today's self-loathing, co-dependent, FFS-dependent, "professional angler" have to do to get disqualified. Short of putting weights in a fishes belly (which is still a problem today 🤦‍♂), how does an angler get disqualified form tournaments that allow pretty much anything, short of criticizing the tournament, or the sponsors themselves.....(imagine that). *I'll say it again, Randy... This is due to the culture in America today. When insecure, corrupt, *CHESSP's (see definition below) get in the mix, whether that be college campus's, college football, education, elections, fishing, etc, etc.... they destroy EVERYTHING in their path. These losers roll out of bed with a "The end ALWAYS justifies the means....no matter who/what it destroys" attitude. I don't think they will ever ban FFS unless the State Fisheries do it. They were able to ban A-rigs that cost 25 bucks but these electronic companies are getting $25000+ per angler, per year and I'm sure the margins on electronics is sky high. Johnson Outdoors, Garmin, and Lowrance own the trails and they are not going to let one of them ban any element of their money maker.

We had a Bass Champs derby on my home lake today which I did not partake in due to not being able to locate enough quality fish here lately. The local hammers did not fair very well at all. It took just undet 27 pounds to win it and we have a ton of water in the lake right now due to a bunch of rain here lately. I have no clue where these guys caught them. There is tons of extra cover and the spawn should be winding down. Thats over a 5 pound average and I have no clue where they caught or how and they were not locals. FFS is not as easy to use as some think.
