I agree. One time I got up at 2:30am and drove 3.5hours to get to a lake before sunrise. Get there and have to wait for 10 boats in line for a tournament. Waited for them all to clear and I was up next only to have a tournament of 15 boats come in, two of which went right in front of me and backed right up to the ramps. Then they sat there in the water all around the ramp, I finally got to put in, then they did a shotgun start with boats buzzing by me within feet. I was waked within 20 feet of my transom, jumped in front of where I was fishing and overall just poor people to share the water or the ramp with. I'd expect it from newbie jetskiers or wake boats but these seasoned anglers should know better.

@@horbie5039 Pretty sure the OP didn't infer that they were literally "our lakes" but it can be frustrating when you show up to the only lake close enough to your house and you show up to the boat ramp and 300 people and 100 boats are clogging up the only place you are able to fish. My personal beef is with wake boats on my local lakes they are causing erosion to all the banks at an accelerated rate with their huge wakes and their music is not what all of us on the lake would choose to listen to. But we all deal with something that irritates us on "our lake".

You hit on one thing that really bothered me when I was watching the lake murray tournament. There were a couple of kids out there who were like 19-20 years old and at first, it made no sense to me. Every once in a while, you’ll see a kid who’s a savant and is able to keep up with the 30-60 year old vets. But multiple kids? Then I realized…oh my god, they’re good at screen staring, aren’t they? When I realized what was happening, it made me sick to my stomach, man.

Greg hackney has FFS and uses it just like every else on the Elite series. It’s a tool that some use and other don’t, he also doesn’t use 2d or sidescan much at all either. They all have it and some are better at it just like every other technique. Some people are better at other techniques than others that doesn’t mean it should be banned. Hackney is one of the best power fisherman of all time!

I knew those fish were out there since I saw them on my Little Green Box 50 years ago. They could always been caught with live bait or by trolling. Once I got in a BASS Club in 1976 I lost interest in fishing for them since tournament rules didn’t allow live bait or trolling. I’m getting tired of being told that we are learning so much about the fish and I can’t compete without it. I can compete and I already knew about the fish.

I have livescope and it does help locate fish offshore but I prefer fishing banks where I don’t really use it. I don’t think it belongs in tournaments but I also don’t think it’s the devil either. I’ve had trips I chased open water fish to try to learn livescope and couldn’t catch or stay on any of the fish at all and would of done better following my instincts I’ve gained from 35 years of fishing.

Randy I’ll be 64 in three weeks. I started Bass Fishing at 12 years old after my grandfather showed me how to work a jitterbug and catch a bass. The explosion of the water, the bass coming up and out of the water just hit me square in the face. I love this sport and if able I’d go everyday. Recently our bass club made the decision to remove a lot of smaller bass to give better bass more food. So we caught 500 10” or less bass and they had a fish fry. I honestly couldn’t bring myself to eat one bite. Catch and release is what I was taught as a kid.

100% correct. I recently got back into Bass fishing. I love it. Catching a fish is the cherry on top of the overall experience. It's about being out in the mystery of nature, to "feel it out" where you think the fish "might be" and where they "might bite". I bought a fishfinder years ago, I think that I may have used it three times. For me personally, I find ZERO pleasure in zipping from spot to spot and flinging lures right into a fish's forehead :) but to each their own. The technology is most certainly impressive for what it is, but it's not for me. It just doesn't feel right. Some days, fishing isn't about catching a fish.

I tried watching Bassmaster live today (Sunday) driving back from fishing in South Dakota. It was so boring I turned it off. Even the guest speakers were making fun of how boring it was.

I’m 65. When I was a kid I had a little game with plastic fish with hooks on the top and you had a rod with a little plastic hook. The “game” was to see who could lower the line down and hook the most fish before the timer went off. That’s pretty much tournament fishing now.

Why not just have tournaments with a ban on sonar. Just start your own tournaments. As for me, i just want to catch fish for food. So if theres a tool that puts more food on my table, especially with current food prices, im going to use it.

I watched the Elite event for a while this morning. It was nice to watch some topwater action but once that goes away it is strictly FFS. I bought a new Garmin unit last week because I needed to upgrade. The unit was $1,500.00. I am not a fan of FFS and to add that to the unit would be an additional 1,500-2K and I have no interest in that. I use my unit for standard sonar to find structure and the mappng to find my way around on strange lakes. I don't think the Japanese anglers could even compete without FFS and a spinning rod. If they had to actually do traditional fishing they would be lost. Alot of them have 4-6 graphs on their boats.

Here's a idea.- learn it, load the boat with transducers, enter the tournament. Put the goggles on. Put a big ol' lounge chair on the deck. Kick back, crush em, and show people what it really is. I wish I had the money. I would go full bore and make that thing look ridiculous. Show it for what it is. Soon they will have the goggles on. Honestly, their probably not allowed. It would be too revealing of the repulsiveness of this "tool".

That would be hilarious. Even better if you qualified for the elite series after one season. Theyd prob ban the lawn chair on the boat before the ffs. They banned elevated platforms for bed fishing but allow a camera to look under the water. Just doesn't make sense.

I agree with a lot of what you say Randy but saying a conventional guy won’t win another tournament isn’t true. Zack Birge just won on eufala on a vibrating jig with his electronics TURNED OFF. Also, a lot of guys in Florida did well and the winning guys did a combination of things
