It will always come down to the guy turning the pedals.

True. Riders, unfortunately, may ultimately bear the brunt of undesirable outcomes in races. If teams hire the smartest engineers, will they now not question the rider’s ability to maximise the full potential of the bike? This might have an impact on how long a rider’s career lasts. Preference may be given to the rider that can unlock the full performance of the bike over the experienced rider. Will probably not see riders like Mark Cavendish anymore; riders who will ride past the age of 35 years. With all this advancements, the rider’s effort, ability and experience should not be overlooked.

Agree but this video I think greatly overstates the amount of optimisation actually happening. Remember, basically every team is constrained by who supplies their equipment. It's well known Shimano wheels are not great compared to Enve, Princeton etc. Yet there are a lot of shimano sponsored teams that have to run them. Heck, even UAE ride a comparatively slow Colnago frame, even though they have the best budget and seemingly limitless R&D.

it was becoming F1, until Pogacar came around with his heavy ass anti aerodynamic colnago and shitted on everyone lol

It would be interesting though, if a rider had only a certain number of spare components for a whole grand tour. Basically give each one bike, two wheelsets and a tire patch kit. Lets see, what the teams focus on then.

Even the best bike can't help a rider who hasn't the "talent" to ride it. The riders have never been all equal (as you surmise) which has been true throughout the generations and remains true today. The bike will remain relatively static even though highly advanced. It's the riders that will differ. I am doubtful that the bike alone will be the deciding factor, unlike F1.

Aero and carbon it all you want. It comes down to the rider and how well they train and dope. Sorry but that is the reality.

Put Tadej on the slowest bike in the peleton and he will win. Put Max on the slowest, hell, put him on any of the bottom five and he will never win. So no, it's not becoming F1.

It’s not the bikes; the big teams use science to make their riders better versions of themselves than if they are on one of the smaller teams. The difference is, unlike engines, you can’t make up rules to naively limit human horsepower; in that sense cycling will never be like F1.
@lukewalker1051

No question, this is the trend. In fact, I see F1 being cancelled and replaced by cycling because bicycle speeds will likely supplant that of F1 next year. Only other twist that may come due to superior aerodynamics in F1 cars is...engines may be replaced by pedals in F1 cars. These won't be the same as kiddie cars many parents give to their children. These will be high tech pedal cars with F1 bodies. We may even see bicycles and F1 cars on the track at the same time.

55 million dollars budget for Tour de France for a single team. Formula 1 has a yearly budget cap of 135 million dollars. So what is this 55 million budget being used for again?

I guess they have ABS on F1s... otoh disk brakes on bikes are certainly the major cause of many group crashes, they are more powerful, riders take more risks, and ride closer in the peloton. My 1st ever front wheel skid was with disc brakes, in an emergency situation.
@scheraph
@scheraph 20 сағат бұрын
F1 cars don't have ABS. But they have 4 wheels, which makes it a lot saver to break at the limit. The don't fall like a tree when one wheel starts sliding.

It's slowly becoming f1 in the sense that the technology to provide a hidden assistance is there! UCI scanning bikes with tablets is an absolute joke. We need data transparency asap but they don't care about fair play as long as money and sponsors are there. And Pogačar brings all of this

Pogaçar with one of the shittiest bikes of the peloton just smoked everyone this year. Unlike F1, power in the legs is ultimatly what decides races, and we all now where when you are at the maxed out state of your natural limit, what really gives you a big performance advantage. This is almost all snake oil selling marketing to deviate naive people from what the big winners are doing, the real perfomance engenieers here are the team Doctors. That said i love bike racing, and like every single one the top winner of the sport, its ProSports(entertainment), i know what i am looking at.
