My dogs ears used to fill up with blood because they were so long that when she shook them they hit the side of her head hard busting vessels. When they were swollen I knew it was time. That’s what I thought of when I saw this. I imagine it’s pretty painful. I feel for you girl.

If he had taken the plunger out of syringe the blood would have just drained through the tube. My hound has had aural hematoma’s and that is what I did. A TON of blood bc ears are so vascular but it’s not like an open wound that’s bleeding. The blood is bright red bc it’s just trapped within the lobe.

I had my ears drained with a syringe and with a scalpel. I got better results with the scalpel. My doc made a small incision with the scalpel and I would drain it as needed throughout the day. Only bad thing was having to wipe it with alcohol after draining. My left ear was done with syringe and my right with scalpel. My left looks like a cauliflower and my right looks completely normal. I don't know why they still use a syringe since it doesn't get all the blood out and the blood that doesn't come out is what hardens.

@@lorax8172 yes, it has a higher chance of infection, but if you clean it with alcohol every time after you drain it, you should be fine. Mine never got infected and I wasn't too religious about cleaning it with alcohol.

It's not complicated as long as the ear hasn't been fucked up for so long that the blood is clotted and won't come out through a needle. He's wearing gloves, using a new needle and swabbed the area with alcohol so it's really fine

Went wayyy to far inside with the needle and used far to large of a gauge needle.. prob would have been better to just puncture in multiple spots with a needle tip and to apply pressure side to side and up and down ... using a 30guage insulting needle would have been sufficient
