It is hard to tell who is real and fake these days. Although there are real underground producers and djs who are fully transparent and film their whole sets from their point of view. Dude. If they are real music producers, who cares? Not just djs. REAL music producers. So they spent hours and hours of time producing brilliant sound and they want to pretend to turn and twist knobs? How else do you get into your performance? By just standing there? It’s an act dude. It’s part of the show. Give it a rest. If you ask half these dj/producers, they will tell you straight up. It’s fake. Now the difference is between the dis that just play music that don’t produce, don’t record, don’t know how to transition tracks - those aren’t djs. Be if they’re producing their own music, let them perform what ever way they see fit. Who cares??

That’s just the one track, doing what it does. Personally, if I go to see a Dj I REALLY want to hear them live, no messing around with pre recoded music and fakery. The first part of the clip she's obviously turning up the low end, and in the second part she is creeping up the volume of the track getting mixed in & adjusts the trim. If you watch past where this clip cuts off in Niki's link around 5m30s, it's obvious she's mixing in the next track. That's DJing.

What's really share is that a huge amount of fake DJs are women....which makes it even HARDER for REAL female DJs to make it and be respected. All of this fakery shows...the most well known and working DJ's are my age (in my 40s)..there are maybe 2 or 3 "young" DJs in the headliner scene that are real DJs and I can see a long career ahead of them. I hope some kids get serious about learning the craft and perfecting it...we're aging out and there's not a lot of talent to move up the ranks. As far as the festivals...most if not all require a pre-recorded set or at least a portion so they can time the lighting and pyro to it. Just the nature of the beast I guess with the festival circuit...the problem is inexperienced dj's think they can pull off a whole career with pre-recorded sets.

fwiu, most of the headline sets of the really big festivals are prerecorded. You can find Deadmau5 talking about it on youtube. This allows for visuals to match up with the set better and prevents technical issues.

I've not been aware of festivals forcing anyone to play a pre-record (?), but if you're a pro at that high-profile level and have any sort of self-respect, you'd tell the festival NO WAY and simply refuse to do it.

Most, not all, but most big events have strict timelines and all DJs, including the famous ones, must play a prerecorded set. Still get a shit tone of money. It’s not fake. It’s just the way it works. So this video really makes you look like you don’t know what you’re talking about. Large events aren’t the same as small venues. And in other shocking news, comedians tell the same jokes every night at every venue too.

hahaha, great video. Ive seen that in first hand. In many big electronic music festivals they dont do anything (of curse not every dj), its all pre recorded and sometimes they play the same set in both decks and they turn a couple of knobs. Its a shame.... i just dont know why, its so easy to mix with cdjs that i really dont understand why. Thats why i dont go to these type of venues anymore. Better to hear any local scratch dj, at least you can see and hear what they are doing. It does not sound perfect, so be prepared to hear non quantize music and errors made by djs...thats the real stuff. Even i use cds regularly , but i think pioneer killed the real dj industry, the devaluation of the music as a media and the 1000 producers per cm2 that regularly release bad music. ufff..got so much into my head. Scratch djs are doing so many things at one time that they even not have time to clap or spring like as....es. :D. Peace.

I have no idea who you guys are. But I laughed my a** off. Greetings to Sellerhausen. I had a short period of my 51 years where I had school parties with my dude. We then had a residence party every 2nd week on Fridays in a student leisure center west of the Leipzig City Center. We had to bring everything everytime with us: The record players, the CD players the cassette players, the records, CDs and cassettes. Because we wanted to make sure we were prepared for everything. Every song was mixed live into the previous one. So, we could mix Phillip Boa with Depeche Mode and Mantronix or something like that. You get the idea. When I see such guys like in your compilation I become really angry. We were never given anything. We carried our whole stuff every two weeks with the tram across the city. So we were done before we started. Nevertheless we always had a full venue, we always had our fans. We had a name in the city back in the days. We would never have such an idea to fake our performance. No, we performed scratching live on the record players of our parents. This is the end. I was so disappointed when I was at such a party with a fake DJ. I didn't know that he faked his performance. When I asked to play this and that like I was asked when I was a DJ, he dared to say that this would not have be possible due to technical reasons. Later I saw that it was all fake. This was the only technical reason.

CDJ's & Computer DJ software was created because, People who could not mix for real using Technic 1200's & a Uri mixer. Would now be able to lie and become a fake DJ. Slamming the fader all the way up on a mixer & trying to line up beat grids using the sync button. Then turning down the hi mid & bass volume on a mixer channel and bring in another track that is off beat. Thank you for this video. All of these so called top DJ's are trash. The best way to stop all fake DJ's is to have them use technic 1200's and a rotary mixer. No computer or software. Let's see them play for real.

For some reason there's this pressure for DJs to always be seen to be "doing something" behind the decks. Maybe that's where this knob-twiddling comes from. You don't need to touch the knobs all exaggerated as though they were made of red hot metal too, lol! If anything you touch the EQs smooth and gentle. As a girl DJ, who used to play in the 90s on vinyl, and now with a controller, I know I do feel this expectation to "perform" which wasn't there in the "old days". I used to play in a booth off to the side, now promoters put you centre stage under a spotlight. As you know most of us are introverts and nerds, so I really hate that shit. Bring in your track beautifully, and have a little dance, then start prepping your next track. Watch the older real DJs on KZbin and they aren't fiddling with the mixer non stop. But then, the whole concept of "EDM" and these ridiculous mega trash festivals and horrible supersaw "music" are not my scene. So OMG yes, it really is so embarrassing. P.S. Those guys with the tiny mixer unplugged were definitely parody.

Then, “performs.” So what if they fake knob twist?? All their effort came from behind the scenes and now all they want to do is party with a gigantic crowd and share everything they had created. Let them do what they want! Would you rather them just stand there? How else do they perform music that was previously made on Ableton live? There’s a difference between music producers and djs.
