In the second example, as soon as player #4 touches the ball, doesn't this reset the offside point, placing all the rest of the players in an offside position?

+Randy Tate Yes, good point. This would happen only if ALL of the defenders are smart and sprint forward. Most teams have players marking the goal line on either side of the goalkeeper, so this would take a while. The forwards would have to either delay their runs, or block the defenders from sprinting forward. The person who receives the ball at the corner of the penalty area has the option of shooting it if he sees the defenders putting his teammates in an offside position.

Very rarely is there offside in corner kicks, almost alway have at least one player on a post or goal line
