@Zismoisgod4 жыл бұрын
Go to a store with someone that has knowledge on it. The store I go to in Amsterdam has someone that takes time to find what model shoe best fits your foot's width and length and all that. In essence you've got to not be able to move around much in the shoe in any direction.

apart from what you are teaching, I kinda understand why there are different styles(features maybe?) from different players when it comes to serving. one of the reasons is probably for the opponents not easy to get used to the rhythem. keep up the good work please! Great video. I’ve always tried to watch serve receives but I could never really figure out what was good/bad about a pass. Your analysis and insights makes understanding what’s a good habit vs a bad habit a whole lot easier. I’d love a video on how to dig/receive fast serves/spikes. How do you absorb energy from hard spinners? And do you think about taking spin off the pass to make the ball easier to set for your setter?

Another question. So the server (#18) at 4:09 and 9:19 has what looks like a somewhat normal jump serve approach, and then does a shortish float, while #20 at 5:51 has what looks like a float-serve-like approach with a two-hand toss, then sends over a bomber (though his other serves are floats). How much info do you get beforehand with scouting for these types of servers that have a "hybrid" serve or an approach that is more ambiguous, and do you use their serving patterns to anticipate what might come in? And how much anticipation should people use for serve passing? For example, the server (#9 I think?) at 8:06 comes in pretty clearly that he's going to put pace on it, and should passers buckle down for it, except be ready in case it clips the net like in this case? Thanks again!
@ErikShojivolleyball4 жыл бұрын
good question. we watch a ton of film, so we try to understand the different types of serves each player has. that being said, the advantage of having a hybrid is that you can change up your serve to keep the passers off guard. we try to pick up on cues to see if they will float or spin it.

I'm curious for your expert opinion, do you feel that the heavy use of Moltens in America trains US players (in the development stages like high school and college) less for passing float serves and thus at a defensive disadvantage compared to other countries? I feel like the Mikasas floated so well that the number of floats in the international men's game exploded, but in the US, people use the Moltens which float ok, but I feel like still promote a standard jump serve. Thanks!
@ErikShojivolleyball4 жыл бұрын
interesting question. i do feel that a lot of players struggle with the mikasa when they try it...me included. idk if its the ball but overall i think vb coaches and players in america are obsessed with jump serving when float serves can also be very difficult.

Great content! When receiving float serves, how much of the power comes from using the legs vs arms? Any advice on passing with your hands? My hand-reception tends to go straight forward/being too low
@ErikShojivolleyball4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! You shouldn’t necessarily need power, but your legs and platform should be solid. I know that doesn’t really help. But if I had to choose between using my platform or using my legs to help get the ball to target I would use my platform. With hand passing, extend up not towards target.
