I always saw it as Prince John surrounding himself with bigger, stronger and often animals of prey. He has crocodils and wolves working for him which are bigger than foxes and the rhinos are his guards despite being herbivores, they're still much more intimidating. That plays off well with how Little John is a bear as he's also a massive creature you'd think would be used for arms with Prince John but he fully embodies the 'gentle giant' trope. The only problem I have with this ending, next to Richard being a deus ex machina, is the fact that John doesn’t really get punished for what he did. In the final ending, it’s more satisfying because you see him wearing the black and white uniform instead of his elegant attire and reduced to the menial and pointless job of breaking rocks with a sledgehammer. In this ending, Richard just shouts at him.

Maybe in the Disney+ remake they can include a subplot about someone (maybe Marian) sending a news to Richard in the crusades, Richard getting the news and returning to England in brief scenes throught the movie, so his return at the last moment seems less out of nowhere. @@aguy7848 Yeah, Disney again made him the typical evil serpent playing the role of the villain's assistant much like Kaa in the secondary villain role of "The Jungle Book" only that Sir Hiss comes more across as the tertiary "nicer" antagonist or least evil who disagrees with John's harsher plans and screwups (though it might be because he's more intelligent such as hanging Friar Tuck and getting into trouble with the Catholic Church) because the Sheriff is only second to John when it comes to being evil and actively upsetting others. He may not wield all the power as John when it comes to this version, but he is the one who actively does the harming whilst working for the King and the one most people love to hate whereas Sir Hiss comes off as slightly more charming while also being cunning. The Sheriff's charm was more a cover to just show how evil he truly was and that's how he was so compelling and fun to watch. 2:53-3:07 *King Richard:* _(to Prince John and Sir Hiss angrily)_ You are *_BOTH_* guilty! You have used the crown for your own selfish interests! You should be banished from England forever! But it would upset mother. Oh, yes. The crown?

Yet Disney’s Robin Hood still stays at number 2 of my animated movie list even with this missing alternate ending Maid Marian is still my 2nd favorite character aswell seeing her get more screen time is better and kinda shows that the ending we see now is just rushed since of how lazy Disney was in this era but thanks for uploading this.

I think I have seen the scene on the dvd version some where.. both endings are amazing 😊

I quite prefer the actual film ending over this one. But yeah, I was rather weirded out how Marian never shows up after the "The Phoney King of England" song sequence until the wedding scene. And I find it weird how here, Sir Hiss sucks his tail with Prince John sucking his thumb.

Sir hiss should get less of lid sentences than John and the sheriff because being beaten by the prince would be punishment enough
@aguy78482 жыл бұрын
Sir Hiss, although one of the kinder individuals among John's lot of cronies, was still the one who hypnotized Richard in the first place. Although he doesn't deserve as much of a sentence as John and the sheriff, he still must atone for his crimes.

A good additional exchange that could be added just before 2:51: Sir Hiss: Well, you knew it wouldn’t last forever! I tried to tell you this would happen, but no no no, your arrogance- Prince John: (finally turning on Hiss and furiously strangling him) Why you eel in snake’s clothing-! King Richard: SILENCE!! Yes, it was a decent attempt. Ustinov had such a deep and musical voice that he must have been difficult to copy, but the man here does a nice job of copying his vocal intonations and such.
