One of the lessons I learned that really helped my game was the concept of being sticky in all directions except for the direction that you want them to go. This concept of framing fits perfectly with that idea. Make it hard for them to go where they want to go. Frame, make it uncomfortable, and when they get frustrated and try to go the other direction, you let them go easily and you slide into your more dominant position. It’s amazing how quickly someone loses focus when they’re finally able to overcome that annoying frame you’ve posted. They feel that they’ve finally found that opening, so they put everything into it. All you have to do is let them overcommit and just slide around to their back, or go with their momentum to sweep them. It works like a charm.

@@brandonmcninja When I roll with my coach, developing my frame has been my top priority, as well as getting totally to my side when trying to shrimp out. He's working on his long overdue black belt, so he continues to have plenty to teach me about it. But I try to remember your phrase when I get in trouble: frames don't push. I'm getting better at using the natural stability of my long bones to keep partners at bay and it keeps me from needlessly gassing myself by pushing for no effect.
