The young doctor Ivan Fogle becomes the assistant of professor Voskresensky, a mysterious genius who prefers an enclosed lifestyle. The professor doesn't need an assistant, but as the University’s Board of Trustees insists, he is forced to hire Fogle.
In addition to medical practice, the professor helps the police to investigate suspicious cases of death. In this case, the police seized all the mail, as the postman who transported it, burned alive. The chief of police thinks that this is a rare case of spontaneous self-ignition. However, professor Voskresensky is convinced that this is a sophisticated murder, and he is determined to prove it.

@@PM2022Detective Anna usually takes two episodes to solve certain crimes, but there is a continuous theme with the main characters that provide a fascinating back story, which makes it very compelling. In that sense it's continuous. The actors are superb.

I absolutely loved this episode and look forward to watching every episode. The script is brilliant, and all the actors were well-cast in their roles. While watching I did think of Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Watson even though the two lead characters have different personalities.

Thank you for this great series. I see in the comments many compaing it to Sherlock Holmes. There is a marvelous series of Sherlock Holmes stories filmed back in the Soviet era with great acting and cinematography. Anyone who likes this series and hasn't seen it I highly recommend it.

The Title in russian actually means 'Resurrection', Professor is a little mis-leading. Still, excellent acting all round.

The original title is actually the last name of the main character which doesn't mean resurrection per SE, though it does have the same base(root) as resurrection. It also has the same root with Russian Sunday, soo.. no. Think Dr. House - though a house but really NOT :)
