That was my grandfather as the farmer in that scene. He was a property master for Warner Bros till he retired in 1971. Had some great stories about that movie and worked with some of the all time greats. James Dean, John Wayne, Natalie Wood, Humphrey Bogart etc.

Any funny story to be told about the scene itself?
@gregsan123
@gregsan123 3 жыл бұрын
@@carlesamigo4731 Not that scene itself. Told me that part was filmed in Lexington Kentucky. There is another scene where they try to break the land speed record in that rocket type ship on the train tracks and end up getting airborne and crashing into the barn again. He said when they fired up the rocket that the extras watching weren’t aware of how loud it was gonna be and when you see them jump and run off, that was legit! Scared the crap out of em.

@@carlesamigo4731 In the pie throwing scene he said that Keenan Wynn ( the great leslie’s partner) was a jerk to a lot of the extras so they ganged up on him with the pies between takes.

@@carlesamigo4731 My grandfather told me it was a very fun shoot with all the travel to the different places. He said aside from Keenan Wynn being a jerk, the whole cast was very nice to work with. He played a lot of cards with Jack Lemmon and Peter Falk. He also was up in the air bicycle when the shots were from far away in the back seat. Just him and the stunt man. The Hannibal 8 car is on display at the Petersen Automotive museum in Los Angeles if you live in the area. Was pretty cool to see that in person.

For me Professor Fate was allways the true hero of that Film, because Fate is everything you can love on a villian, while Great Leslie is all what you can hate on a hero. I think everybody who saw the movie, could understand why Fate hated Leslie and would agree with his statement at the end of the movie.

Prior to it at 7pm (CT), "Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines" (1965), then at 9:30pm (CT) is the funniest film I've ever seen: "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" (1963). Followed by The Great Race at 12:30am. At 3:30am (CT) is "The Fortune Cookie" (1966) starring Jack Lemmon and his great friend Walter Matthau.

Max is an unsung Hero in this. Talk about an all around Assistant. He could fly a plane. Had no fear of jumping on a pedal driven balloon, or a rocket powered rail car. Need him to accompany you on a dangerous road trip all the way around the world , all while being totally supportive of your dastardly deeds and nefarious schemes? Doesn’t matter, he’s down for it all without nary a complaint. Ya just can’t get help like that nowadays.
