I realized that for the checkboard puzzle, you really just have to count each square. 8 black, 7 white. 7+8=15. Surprised they didn't add that to the answer section

The checkerboard is easier to solve if you count the number of white and black squares in total (six and eight, respectively); all the routes you could take would be found by multiplying the number of rows by columns, so three by five equals fifteen routes. You multiply this because the squares divide up the same way for each route.
