I'm so happy that the movie really showed, like in this scene, that the love between these two women was very much real and passionate, and the love triangle wasn't about Bill. They weren't in it to please him, they truly were in love with each other. Olive was enamored with Elizabeth even before she started developing feelings for Bill. Suppose it came full circle when they ended up staying together as a couple for 40 years after he passed away - Elizabeth kept her promise to love Olive for the rest of her days.

Hila R Sorry, but the movie was disingenuous. They didn't stay with Bill out of obligation, they loved him as well. But Hollywood movies consider this type of polyamory to be politically incorrect, so they make it all about Elizabeth and Olive.
@44excalibur6 жыл бұрын
Hila R Oh, I know all of that. But the film also obviously downplays Bill's role because while Elizabeth and Olive did stay together forty years after Bill passed away, the fact remains that they stayed with Bill until the day he died. And while you are correct about the way lesbian romances are portrayed in films, which is often negatively, the fact remains is that this was not a lesbian romance, it was a polyamorous one. And the fact that the director is a lesbian doesn't mean that it still doesn't irritate her that a man was part of their triangle.
@Hilaa56986 жыл бұрын
I think the movie just didn't make the love triangle be ABOUT Bill, but the fact that it didn't surround around him didn't necessarily downplay his part. We're just used to having everything be about men. So many people said this movie portrays polamory in a great and unprecedented way. Again, I think the lesbian romance was brought to centerstage for the reasons I mentioned, and that it was a good thing to do. The way it was handled was unheard of, and as a queer woman, I can't possibly tell you how much it meant to me. But Bill was never left out. And as for the director, I'm sure if she wasn't invested in this story and excited by it, she wouldn't have written and directed a film about it. She brings her own interpretation of the story to the film, and us the viewers experience it in different ways and take different things from it. Regardless of the polyamory, at the end of the day this film is still great and important for many other reasons, including LGBT representation that is still severely needed.

Hila R Oh, I totally understand what you're saying. However, the context of William, Elizabeth, and Olive's real-life relationship is a bit different from how it is portrayed here, is the point I'm making. So you're telling me that as a lesbian(the term "queer" has always seemed rather dated to me), you think that lesbians in no way feel incensed or annoyed, or downright infuriated when two bisexual women are in a polyamorous relationship with a man, inviting him into their Sapphic circle? See, this is the reason I've heard that many lesbians take issue with bisexuals, and I've read articles from bisexual women who felt mistreated by the lesbian community simply because they also like men as well. It just strikes me the among the LGBT community, the B and the T are not always on the same page as the LG.
@Hilaa56986 жыл бұрын
44excalibur you're suddenly making this conversation to be about the LGBT community, and you're speaking on behalf of entire groups of people and making bold claims. I'll just say that queer is a term that LGBT people reclaim nowadays and use with the meaning of "non-straight". I am bisexual myself. Nevermind my thoughts on the things you're saying, sorry, but you have no say in them if you are a man and/or straight. Don't invade LGBT spaces if you don't belong in them.

This scene literally proved that Olive was always more in love with Elizabeth. I get that she was in love with both of them but she got into the relationship mainly to be with Elizabeth and no one can convince me otherwise.

Olive only loved Elizabeth. She just knew that the husband came with the package. The husband loved Olive, Olive love Liz and Liz loved Olive. Their marriage lacked when Olive was not there. And when he died they lived together 38 years after that. I think Liz needed the husband as a cover because she cares what ppl think.

This was a brilliant movie. Very underrated and under appreciated. It also gave me a better understanding of certain polygamous relationships. Very eye opening and mind opening. Beautiful story, and the way it’s told is beautiful, amazing acting, I liked everything about this film. It remained interesting and engaging throughout. As I stated above, this film is underrated.

Pulled from the Wiki: William and Elizabeth Marston's granddaughter, Christie Marston, criticized the film, saying the idea that Elizabeth and Olive Byrne were lovers was purely fictional. She also noted that despite the film being promoted as a "true story", the family was never consulted for the film, nor did the director attempt to contact them.[14][15] Yereth Rosen, granddaughter of Josette Frank, criticized the extremely conservative portrayal of her grandmother in the film, saying "Real Josette was pretty much the opposite of a Focus on the Family-type arch-conservative Christian, for reasons beyond the fact that she was not a Christian."

We need a Stan Lee biography movie that talks on how he created Spider-Man, Fantastic four, X-men and Hulk and Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, Black Widow, Black Panther and Captain Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant man and the Wasp, Doctor Strange, Avengers and Nick Fury. Bryan Cranston, Tom Holland or any other actors that could played Stan Lee.
