Hmm. That's interesting. My personal experience has been exactly the opposite. (For most of it. I'll come back to that.) I ended up dropping out before getting my Associates Degree in my 20's back in 1999 because I had a heck of a time keeping up. I went back in 2017 and got my Associates in 2020. When I went back, because I'm working and raising a family, I aimed for online and self-study classes. You can tell looking at my grades which history and psychology and math classes were online or self-study and which were classroom based. The ones with A's were online, the ones with C's were classroom based. For me, a lot of it was just having control of my schedule, both in my 20's and in my 40's. It turns out that when I'm rushing out the door with the kids screaming or missing dinner with my family to be in a room full of complete strangers that I care nothing about and probably won't see ever again after this class is over, I'm not in the mindset to learn. When I can deal with the screaming kids or enjoy time with my family and schedule school to happen at a time when those aren't a problem, that works better. Besides that, I can pause the lecture if the way the teacher tells it isn't working for me and look up other explanations right in the middle of it, whereas if the teacher just doesn't communicate in a way that works for me having them just say it another way that won't work for me rarely worked out. (My statistics teacher may as well have taught the class in Spanish, but I found people on KZbin that I could follow. A+ baby! And that would never have happened if I were wasting my time listening to him.) The one exception I will say for sure was my philosophy class. I mean, not in the grade thing: I got an A in my online philosophy class, but in retrospect I would have preferred a C in a classroom philosophy class. The online forum that we were supposed to use for discussions was barely adequate (that's a description, not a criticism, as I'm not sure how to improve it) and there were a lot of people that barely engaged at all so it was really hard to get good student feedback and that left the teacher overwhelmed trying to give all 100ish of us the feedback that normally came in classroom discussion.

I learn a lot online too - family & life means there’s often no other way. I’m glad it’s there for those of us with busy lives & commitments. But I miss the connection you get with face-to-face, and I’d prefer to learn in person if that was an option. I definitely think that, for full-time students on campus, being in class is the best way to learn.

@@mikefuller9073 I did very well in my CSEs but don’t feel bright at all 😅 I think doing well in CSEs for me was more due to effective strategy with meeting marking criteria since the knowledge didn’t come to me naturally? So it’s not always a sign of academic intelligence although it would be much easier for someone who easily understands the concepts. I still feel very out of place at my university course since everyone seems to have an extensive vocabulary. How is your learning journey at the moment? Do you plan to continue education in some way?

Good video. It's great you got rid of that intro-segment you had in earlier videos.
