I noticed in your steering design you use a solid link that connects both front wheels together, mixed with independent suspension, as a result you’ll have a bump steer effect, simply meaning that when the suspension goes up, your wheel will turn a little, it doesn’t seem like a huge deal but you might want to replace it with a set of “t”steering links found most commonly in off road rc cars. Not super important but maybe a thought the next iteration, other than that a super impressive model!

These are AWESOME. My vote for your next model would be an OshKosh Series S front discharge concrete mixer. It would have foldable chutes that raise, lower and swing left and right as well as a drum that rotates in both directions at variable speeds so it could actually load and disharge material. As you may have guessed - this is my real job. But it would be an awesome model and would be the one that I would build. I've actually delivered crushed stone to a job with my mixer at work. We were short on dump trucks and needed to deliver some stone to a job.

Awesome construction and build! If your Notebook loses computing power it's usually either thermal compound degradation or you collected too much adware - you already removed the dust. Thermal compound tends to disintegrate after 2-5 years. The more you use it, the faster it gets crumbly. Might want to check on that, could increase your processing power significantly (back to new)

@Roobotics4 ай бұрын
8:10 for non-continuous operation it's fine to operate a brushed motor at a slightly higher voltage than it's nominal rating to deliver more oomph, in this case you want to get a lower voltage rated motor than 12v. Running a 12v motor at 7v is going to be VERY anemic. 5v type would be much better suited for something like outriggers, drivetrain is another matter, BUT you also can simply PWM the 7v @~71% into a 5v motor for continuous operation that should have similar thermal performance as running it at 5v nominal. But now you have the ability to tune it and so things like momentary overdrive, because you aren't hitting the ceiling already.

Crane operator here. I've run all of these cranes. Please please build an LR1600 or similar crawler crane in the future. You did awesome on the car body of the crane and can definitely let slide the center axles not steering, I guess, lol. Crab walk for the record, is very very useful and while crab and round steer are great, those are only used at low speed to position the crane for setup. It would be cool to have a front steer mode as well for "highway" driving. Here's a few more tweaks that would be fairly easy to do to make it a bit more accurate. You put the dead end of the hoist cable running up to the top of the boom. It should be on the bottom and to the other side of the sheaves so that you can run the cable through them if you made an bigger hook block, which would also be very cool to have. Also you eluded to changes to the counterweights. The top counterweight should have notches on the side so that lugs on triangle-ish shaped wing counterweights can drop into on each side. And then also have top notches so that when you pull the counterweights up, they align themselves square with the frame up the upper. I can think of a few other minor tweak but really, bravo. This is so good
@zrobotics4 ай бұрын
@ 22:37 You may want to consider modifying the code so that when extending/retracting the boom it also reels the main winch in/out. Or does that pull too many amps?

And second off, Now that you have a mobile crane, a tower cane would be a really neat model to complement the crane. I’d be really interested to see how you would handle the challenges of the climbing frame so the crane could build itself without too much human assistance.

First of all, this is insanely cool! I admire your enthusiasm in designing these. Secondly, I don't think any axle should be parallel to any other when steering. They should turn more the further they are from center of the vehicle. Ackermann steering and everything, for such a long vehicle that should improve maneuverability a lot. Could be the reason it was difficult for small servos to steer. Lego usually achieves this by simply varying the length of steering knuckle rod. I've seen 1/87 model with about 8 axles, all ackermann-steered with only 2 servos (and crab steering also possible), it was mind-blowing. As for new projects, here are some ideas: * Farming tractor with attachments (cool to watch, but not very interactive) * Ro-Ro kinematics truck * Swing arm kinematics truck * A truck with foldable crane and (dump) bed, basically any truck that can load cargo into itself and drive around * Garbage truck (yes, doesn't sound cool, but very playable) * Reach stacker / forklift * Custom remote to control them all (e.g. featuring a ESP32 with display), actually I plan to design my own when I have time as at the moment I have to make do with an android app))

Using multiplexors or shift registers would allow you to keep a large amount of sequenced motors and servos in a much smaller amount of pins. For example, since the boom sections don't operate simultaneously, a 1 to 8 multiplexer would let you control up to 8 motors/servos with 4 outputs. A shift register for the addressing would allow you to allow you to cut it down to two. Or you could just use a serial-in-parallel out shift register to control a number of devices with a single output and a clock signal. This method could also control them "simultaneously", with delay being number of register positions * clock frequency
