Better take, Erika's best use us as a training weight for Seth. Seth with a Speed and Skill penalty, and without the ability to Rescue or Take anyone else actually makes him a pretty balanced unit, plus you'll be able to seize faster.

And if you're trying to do quick clears dont you want seth at his full power ? And you'd just carry Erika with another mounted unit.

I think you underrate Myrrh. She needs like, three kills to start taking off, and can basically terminate every boss left in the game effortlessly, as well as being excellent to draw status staves or siege spells. Myrrh can oneshot both her dad and Fomortiis with minimal investment, and kinda serves as the game's Gotoh in that context, except she gets to face roll like, six chapters. Once she hits like, level 10, 12, she basically becomes unkillable.

Yes. Since making this tier list, I’ve seen just how silly Myrrh can be, and she’s probably the easiest way to deal with the Necrodragon, Fomortiis, and Lyon. She’s quite nice if you feed are few kills when you first get her

@@ProfessorBopper To her deficit, she DOES kind of need to be fed those first few kills (or just serve up some eggs), and, y'know, 50 uses means you can't exactly just throw her into every enemy for the entire rest of the game, so she's not top tier or anything, but she's a nice little engine of destruction once you get her online. And, in case anybody cares, she's pretty mediocre as a Dark magic user and since she's technically unpromoted, she can't get S-rank for Fenrir, but can get some decent mileage out of the good monster equips. Some of the Gorgon ones in particular are pretty nice, and one of the Bael talon variants is also pretty nuts. She's pretty frail without the Dragonstone defense buffs, though still probably tankier than your average mage, and flight is always neat on a weird unit. No idea why anyone would care what her viability is when you glitch nonstandard equipment into her inventory, but hey, it also means Seth can add being the most powerful Dark mage in the series to his list of accomplishments, so why complain?

I will always remember the first time I played a fe game on hard without resetting or side missions. Somehow Gilliam hit 16 speed as a knight. He got speed 13/16 level ups as a knight with 30% growth rate, it was hilarious.

Ah, yes, the unbelievably blessed unit. The first time I played I really liked Colm, and I used him a lot, and he ended up being ridiculously strong and bulky. Nearly capped in all relevant stats. Naturally I was disappointed the next time through when that turned out to be a freak anomaly.

Pretty good tierlist overall, but there is no way in hell that gerik should be above cormag. If were talkin about eirika route then yes, there id an argument to be made, but in ephraim route he does not only join way earlier, cormag also joins with lance right of the bat which is prolly the best weapon type in the game (easy 1 2 range aswell as being acurate and relatively light with good damage) he also joins as a flier which gives him a alot of utility ig rescue droppin and just flyin around the map to clear chapters fast. Cormags damage is also nothin to scof at. Good bases as well as a high level which means that he is good to promote pretty much right from the get go, hell he even comes w the elysian whip in order to do so !! Id even argue that he is better than gerik in eirika route because of his even higher level meaning that he can litteraly promote right away aswell as the previous things i said that gerik will never be able to achieve. Im not saying that he is a bad unit, hell im pretty sure that he is better in combat when it comes to combat, but geriks foot locked status aswell as him bein sword locked aswell from the start is a big thing to take into consideration

My opinion of Gerrick has definitely been influenced by my 0% growths run we’re Gerick is easily the best combat unit you have. He can promote immediately (literally the first turn you have him) and it gives him access to axes right off the bat. Late game he’s the best boss killer/ladykiller/everything-killer in the army. Of course, Cormag is awesome and his flying utility could definitely make him better overall, especially since hero Gerick is too heavy to be rescued by any promoted mounted units

Hey, I think you underrated Lute. I watched Gwimpage get Lute to Staff Rank A (for Warp) by chapter 15. On Ephraim Route, where Saleh shows up much later, Lute can/should be more powerful than Saleh by the time you get to him. And by that time you’ve built up some support, further benefitting her.

They did L'arachel dirty. His design is amazing but I can't really see Duessel being *that* high, he helps a lot on the phantom ship but so does Seth already and in the late game the demand for a mobile iron wall isn't exactly high. I would at least put him below Saleh though, he still rocks. Meanwhile I'd put Tana just behind Cormag, wyvern knights in arms ~

did my first run of the game since a very long time ago. decided to torture. leveled all characters evenly. never used a cavalier. my team consisted off: Amelia, Ross, Ewan, Vanessa, Erika, Colm, Joshua, Lute, Neimi, L’Arachel, moulder, Artur. to make it even harder on myself, i only used basic weapons until the very end. and used 0 stat boost tiems, or the tome from the sand level. took me almost a week of my free time to complete it. Amelia promoted to general. > ross promoted to berserker. > vanessa promoted to falco knight. Ewan > summoner. > colm assassin. > Lute sage > L'Arachel never promoted KEK.. idk this shit wasn't easy

Honestly, I don't find Myrrh to be bad at all. If anything, I find her to be incredible. I'm doing a Difficult mode run right now, and she is very powerful. She nearly one-rounds enemies at base, which isnt great, but she starts to one-round after a couple of levels, which she gets really fast. She is very durable, even with her low HP, plus her HP goes up super fast due to her xp gain. Her only real weakness is Luna druids, which to be honest are scary to pretty much any unit, but they are especially dangerous to her, due to her low HP.

Tiering Myrrh is weird because it's a combo of bad availability, good combat (after a few levels, but she has accelerated exp gain), bad move, flying, and being the best unit in the game against the final three bosses. Her low HP is what always gets me because it can limit where she goes, but Myrrh has definitely grown on me after doing this list

Yeah, her availability is pretty bad, but I find she's one of the best combat units once you get her, as long as she isnt fighting Luna druids or enemies with effective weaponry. I wouldnt say shes one of the best units in the game, since you get her so late into the game, but once you do get her there's very little reason to not use her.

I find him a complete nuke on certain situations, but Ayra (from fe4) is still my favorite myrmidon by how overkill she is (seriously, brave sword, pursuit, astra, swords being the best weapon in that game, and she can also use magic swords for 1~2 range) but Joshua is one of my favorite myrmidon's still, unfortunately he's on a game that doesn't benefit him too much but he can still kill anyone that you throw at him

I'm not sure about Garcia being in B, his speed growth isn't really good and at 7 base, that means he'll struggle to double enemies later, although enemy stats seem kinda underwhelming in sacred stones so it won't be that bad. Ross I think is very similar, they even have similar growths (almost), it's just that Ross takes more work to level, but since he joins very early (unlike the other 2 trainees) and I like having crit (and to abuse peaks), I train him up to a berserker. With all that said, I don't think there should be a 2 tier difference between those two. So maybe Garcia at top of C tier. Idk man I just like crits, pls no bully

I think what you say is fair. I like Garcia quite a bit because he’s a good boy and is around when no else is as one of the better combat options for the first half of the game. His speed isn’t great, but enemies are really weak, hand axes are OP, and the Garm more than fixes the speed problems, with him having one of the easiest paths to the Garm in the game. Berserker Ross is also best Ross as you say. Crits are fun, and funny crit animations are even better

Yeah I love Ross too. Got him to level 19 pirate before turning him to a berserker, he somehow had 18 luck meaning killer axes were 70+% crit rate. Needless to say, he crit Formortiis to death with Garm

Honestly, I think Joshua should be higher than Natasha, because, sure healing is great, but Natasha is so underleveled when yiu get her, and there are rare secenarios on hard mode where you'd need both Natasha and Moulder, you're better off sticking with the one who doesn't die in 1 hit. Joshua comes ready to battle, and with juiiicy hard mode bases. Now that doesn't mean that Joshua is S tier or anything, but he is a unit you'd consider using over say Kyle or Forde..

I do like Joshua's early game combat quite a bit more since I did the tier list. He'll always be held back by being sword locked, but C swords and having good player phase combat is nice early on. I still think Forde and Kyle are better because FE8 loves mounts + javelins, but I do think I underrated Joshua.

Joshua gets increasingly worse every chapter after he joins. Honestly im not so sure id deploy him over Kyle or Forde. A medicore cav can atleast keep up, be used for rescue drops, control weapon triangle, and imo Kyle and forde have more long term potential. Joshua's combat really isn't that good considering his reliance on crits, facing weapon triangle disadvantage, and lack of 1-2. He's a player phase unit that doesnt even have an impressive player phase.

In my two playthroughs to this game, I’ve taken a very different approach, in that I play slow, hit the tower of Valni and skirmishes often, and watch my weaker characters grow, so I decided to chip in my takes on your takes through that lens. Ross: Dude, you put in just a little effort with Ross, feed him some kills in the first 10 chapters, do some skirmishes, he is a BADASS mid-late game. In my most recent playthrough, with a berserker promotion, he had the highest strength stat of almost all my units, bar Gerik. And since I dropped a speedwings on him, he was doubling most enemies as well. Also, when he had a killer axe, he was running a 60-70 crit chance, doing WORK wherever he went. Colm: I think Colm deserves to be a little higher. I actually used Colm and went assassin with him (cuz I didn’t feel any of the mymirdons would be useful as assassin as opposed to master swordsman and I just wanted an assassin), and he was kind of a freak. I promoted at level 16, and his speed was already capped at that point, and he had very high strength, to were he was doubling and one turning almost every encounter until really late game. Also, he just does NOT get hit, so long as you’re paying attention to triangle advantages. He’ll soak up a lot of attacks in enemy phase without taking damage, leaving said enemies open to finishers from other units if need be. Artur: I’ve actually never used Artur in my 2 playthroughs, but I can super see his appeal. In addition to his effectiveness against monsters, it seems to me that most enemy magic users in the game have been shamans or druids, so his triangle effectiveness is useful for a lot of the game. Natasha: God, why did I try and use this chick? One of the few characters I just let die when she did, quickly replaced her with L’Arachel. Ephraim: I agree with everything you said. I’ve only played this and blazing blade, and to me Ephraim is by far the most impressive lord in those two games. Cormag: God I love this man. Marisa: Went through the trouble of promoting her to sword master, and immediately regretted it. Shoulda just used Joshua. Tethys: I’ve never used dancers, and I’ve seen what they can do, so I need to get into that. Rennac: At the point I got him, with the way I played and the stats he had, everything he did in combat, Colm was doing better. He was purely utility for me, being able to pick locks without a lock pick or a key. This is really useful in Tower of Valni, with some LOADED chests in the upper levels. Once again, this is through the lens of you taking time leveling up characters with the Tower and skirmishes, so not perfectly applicable to your list, but I just wanted to throw in my experience with the game and its characters.

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding how some of the criteria is being compared. Like when gerik is good cause he can optionally get garm if hero vs a ranger mount. That is viewed in a vacuum. But aren't other times you talk about playing non grind efficient not super ltc and sometimes 0 growth. I would guess duessel or garcia should be viewed for garm instead as candidates

Why not all 3? I have found that it’s pretty easy to get Gerick from C to S axes, especially if you promote him as soon as he shows up. His bulk and access to hand axes means he can see tons of enemy phase combat and really rack up that axe experience. I always like to have multiple Garm users if I can because it’s fun to pass around and murder late game enemies with. Also, it is difficult to use a standard criteria, but generally, I’m going for “who makes the game the easiest, when playing somewhat fast.” It’s pretty vague criteria, but I like to think about it as, “who would I recommend a new player use to make the game easier?” The reason I talk about 0% growths or ltcs is just for variety and to talk about the characters in a variety of ways, and generally (not always!) being good in an Ltc or 0% growths = being good in vanilla

Other than it being my first Fire Emblem, and thus not understanding many of its systems (most notably supports, of which I got so few you would be able to count them on the fingers of one hand and struggle to reach the pinky), I now understand a bit better why I was having quite a bit of trouble with a game which is widely considered amongst the easiest in the series, if not the outright easiest. For a start, I had been told Seth made the game trivial so I benched him as soon as I could. I barely used Vanessa and Moulder outside of their first couple chapters (although I did use them more than everyone else I'm about to mention), pretty much never used Artur or Saleh, and straight up didn't use Tethys (I was but a fool who didn't understand the power a dancer's hips have), Knoll, Duessel, Gerik or Joshua (amongst other lower tiered recruitable units which I didn't know I was supposed to recruit despite them having very distinct designs which should have lead me to that realisation). So, my main party would be Eirika (I stopped using her once I reached level 20 long before being able to promote her), Tana and Cormag as flyers, Franz and Kyle as chevalry units (even I realised Forde got the short end of the stick), Natasha (and later L'Arachel) as the healer, Neimi and Innes (funny how his name in Spanish is James) as archers, Ross (Garcia until I had his son trained up) as my axe wielder, Gilliam as the team's tank and Lute as the MVP mage. Pretty bad line up if I asked you. Still, Sacred Stones is my favourite of the 3 Fire Emblem's I've actually played when it comes to gameplay (the other two being Awakening and Three Houses). I've only played through Eirika's route for what that might be worth saying, I'm by no means huge on replaying games even if the Fire Emblem games are ones which very clearly benefit from having that replayability factor.

Imo the amount of effort it takes to get Ross going is overstated compared to some characters ranked higher than him. He needs the least babying of any trainee unit ive ever used, and once he gets going he's a one man army (especially with water walking). He obviously still loses points for not being mounted but in general, i tend to find he's at least a bit underrated. Forde was so hilariously bad in my first playthrough. Got stat screwed so hard he couldn't 3 or 4 round most enemies within a couple chapters, even as I babied him to try and keep him relevant. I found it so funny that despite having access to basically the best line of classes in the game, he still was begging to get benched.

I agree with most of the rest of the list though. I personally find Garcia overrated just because of how quickly he is outclassed by Ross, who imo has more utility. Also i can't tell if Lute is overrated on your list or if I've just had terrible luck with her growths in every playthrough. From my experience, I'd have her in high F tier or low D tier. She needs as much babying as the trainees (more than Ross), but she never seems to get the eventual stats to compensate like other trainees do. For me Marisa and Joshua were about on par with each other, I'd unite them in D tier with Joshua being slightly better.

Ross can use Iron at base. 23:25 you say he cant use anything but hatchet is my GBA game card wrong? I think hand axe is also rank E. it only takes 10 turns to feed him to 10 which isnt to hard to do with Franz or Seth weakening things once a turn for him. Obligatory not a ross fanboy statement. I meant to say that Ross can’t use anything other than the hatchet without having his AS destroyed. Of base Ross breaks out iron or hand axe, it’s a wrap for the poor guy as everything except for soldiers will double him and his accuracy will be whack. I would also say that Myrrh, while not great, is a fine crutch for taking on the late game bosses if you need one

Ewan can be really good if you grind him, but the problem compared to other characters is that you have to grind him

@@ProfessorBopper Yeah but unlike Ross and Amelia (though less with Ross because I don't think it is hard to train him at all considering how you have him at a point where you are training characters anyway) Ewan has potential to become a summoner. A type of class that no matter who the character is that becomes it will at least be great. Look at Knoll you put him in upper mid tier alone just because he starts out as a summoner. Ewan because of becoming a summoner allows him to fill the promise that you get for training baby units unlike the other 2 even. In that they will at some point become good and reward you for your hard work. Ross and Amelia both have shit that can happen that lets you down. But RNG wise even if Ewan is screwed which is the least likely out of the baby units because his stat growths are the most balanced actually he will always end up useful because he can become a summoner. So you are in control some over if he can become useful or not. Even then chances are if you train Ewan as well he will unlike Knoll be able to fight as well. I think people in this community punish the training required for classes to be good to harsh. Myrrh is easily able to destroy the final bosses in the game and you only have to train her for a bit to get to do that. Sure Ewan and Myrrh come in at the worse times to train new units game wise but there are things you can do to make that easier. Pretty much each maps with them have areas you can feed them a little some. Ewan has the most broken class in the game really (hell I'd argue the series) to the point where it would make anyone using it worth using. Both these characters should be at the top of low tier IMO at least. There is nothing wrong with being a low tier god after all. You put Orson on top of it because he makes an annoying map at the early game easy yet Ewan has potential access to a class that makes the final 3rd of the game easy because the ability screws with enemy AI harder than any land mine could ever dream of and restocks each player phase yet he is trash tier because you have to work a little for that? Oh Knoll is already your summoner? Oh wow why not have a chance at 2? 2 phantoms are better than 1!

TBH I feel like Syrene gets too much credit just for having a pegasus. Sure, high move fliers are nice, but Syrene joins so late and is so bad in combat that I never felt comfortable using her the way I use other fliers. I always had to keep her close to the group because she just couldn't handle anything. It's like someone looked at the first Fire Emblem, went "Well the last pegasus you get in that game had low stats, so we should make the last pegasus in this game have low stats too!" while forgetting that Est, if you managed to baby her didn't turn out completely worse than every one of her competitors.

I was referring to other enemy types (mercenaries, fighters, archers) when saying Franz has a tough time doubling early on. What would your ranking for Ross, Ewan and Emilia be if the grinding isn't considered as a downside and you would use the Tower? I always use them in my run throughs and they always end up being absolute beasts. Ross as a zerker, Ewan as a druid and Emilia as a general (I know paladin would be a great pick, but I like having some class variety and there are loads of other good options for paladins).

A tier list that allowed grinding would be quite different I think. It would basically be class and then availability determining the order with S tier being Seth, Vanessa, Tana, Cormag, Tethys and then the A tier being the Paladin squad. Amelia as a paladin would be in A tier but a general Amelia would be D or F since all of the grinder flyers and paladins would make a general’s bulk useless since everyone’s stats are overkill in this setting. Ross would probably be B tier as a berserker for Ephraim route where he can abuse chapter 13, but he’ll be kept back from being footlocked and Ewan would probably be B or C tier. Summoner is his best class and gives him a lot more options than anima magic does. He still gets staves as summoner so he’s still good for a heal ever now and then. In a grind setting, Ewan basically becomes your best warper, and while warping isn’t as good in Sacred Stones as it is in Binding Blade or Shadow Dragon, it still would help greatly with chapters 16, 19, and 20

Joshua is a pretty reliable boss killer IMO and there is enough 1 range enemies that he bodies. Niemi is a funny character to use I had an 18 strength niemi without energy rings before promotion so I had to use her end game since it was very funny

Why do people say Myrrh is mediocre???? Shes got an inherent advantage against like 60-70% of the enemies in this game because theyre monsters, same as Artur. She can fly so she’s unhindered. She levels up incredibly quickly, usually getting one level per attack until a certain point, and even then its nothing to grind. Her only disadvantages are her limited attacks, which i never had an issue with because of said quick leveling, and i wouldnt give her all the exp anyway from other units that need it. Her other disadvantage would be arrows, which i also dont generally have a problem with, and if you really want you can give her the fili shield. Done. Easily A to S tier. B if you really want to argue about her lack of utility and limited attacks.

Myrrh is B tier behind Ephraim because of her "utility" and her flying ability. She is super quick to train up and as long as you aren't letting her waste her dragon stone uses, she'll be useful all the way through end game. Just keep her far far away from Luna Druids.
