I cannot thank you enough for this video!!! I am very behind when it comes to math due to a number of reasons, including a few learning differences as well as I was given an honors math program growing up that was like high school in elementary and I never learned anything because I didn't even know what they were asking. I am trying to heal my relationship with math especially since I have to take a college-level one soon and this video cleared up years of confusion. The b value in the second exercise of the check comperhension is -3 but not 3, because we picked two values for x and y, first one is (0,4) and second is (1,1) then (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) = -3. So this is what i got, explain me guys if i made a mistake, thanks in advance!

YOU AND ME BOTH!!! I actually failed my highschool math equivalency state test. I was put in a remedial math class and finished in less than a quarter of the time I was suppose to. The teacher asked why and it was simple: I had never been taught most of what was on the test. It wasn't that I couldn't learn it. I'm in an accounting program now and struggling with this statistics course because I've never seen much of the math before.

Hey, Professor Dave. I think the answer for (1, 5) and (-2, 7) is y = 2/3 - 17/3 Since the formula in two ways of switching -21/3 = -4/3 + b will always give the same answer. For example, left side would be: = 21/3 -4/3 + b, then moving b to the left side to get -b = 17/3 and then multiply both side by (-1) to get b = -17/3. For the right side is the same, -21/3 = -4/3 + b. -21/3 + 4/3 = b, keeping b to the right side. To get -17/3 = b or b = -17/3.

If the answer was not in it's improper form, the answer would be considered incorrect. If the intercept 3/2 for example, its up 3, over 2. You can't simplify to mixed mumber because the slope would be incorrect.

@@Metalslidelol Thank you for your response - I'm still a bit confused why it's called "three halves" if it's not actually a fraction, like also at the 4:46 mark he says "five halves". Just trying to reference the meaning of those fractions with what I actually do know about fractions. How those fractions end up translating into a line on a graph is still an absolute mystery to me too - this is where math takes a hard left turn into oblivion lol

​@@twrxzq Sure ! I will consider that you already know what slope is ! So we have Y=x If x=3 then y=3 too Understood? Great So basically, slope is the tan(x) We already know that Tan(x) = Opposite side/Adjacent side So you take two points You get it ? This is the rule simply Y0-Y1/X0-X1 Y0 and Y1 are random points you choose from the line But Y0>Y1 The same goes with X0 and X1 If you didn't understand yet i can explain again and simplifying
