Professor Fink first describes some of the major functions of the Hypothalamus of the Brain, including the Thermoregulatory Reflex Center, the Appetite/Satiety Reflex Center, Osmoregulatory (Thirst) Reflex Center and the Parturition/Milk Let-Down Reflex Center. The function of Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH; Vasopressin) is then described and the Negative Feedback Loop that regulates the tonicity of the body fluids.

Colostrom does indeed contain antibodies (which I stated on the video lecture). It also contains significantly LOWER amounts of both sugars & fats & calcium than mother's MILK. You are correct to point-out the presence of lymphocytes and growth factors, as well as proteins in general. The quote below is taken from Wikipedia. Thank you for your clarification. -- professor fink "Colostrum is very rich in proteins, vitamin A, and sodium chloride, but contains lower amounts of carbohydrates, lipids, and potassium than mature milk. The most pertinent bioactive components in colostrum are growth factors and antimicrobial factors. The antibodies in colostrum provide passive immunity, while growth factors stimulate the development of the gut. They are passed to the neonate and provide the first protection against pathogens." Really awesome lecture! Wish I would've taken this class in person. Only comment is that OXT receptors are in more places than just the uterus and mammary glands (i.e., amygdala, prefrontal cortex, nucleus accumbens), which are regions in both males and females.

If a mother doesn't breast feed the infant, the suckling trigger of the oxytocin release is not happening, so presumably less oxytocin is being released in the mother's brain. Does this diminish the level of emotional affection and bonding that the mother experiences with the infant, as compared with, say, a second child of the same mother who is breast fed? Because we can assume that the second infant would trigger more oxytocin. I'm thinking about the psychological feedback loop, and the consequences for the child's attachment status with the mother. The emotional bond could potentially be weakened on *both sides* of the relationship, not just the child's side.

probably- b/c i found out that i was not breast fed and my father would come form his 12 hr shift and i was crying. My Mum left in in my crib all day crying- i guess. My father would pick me up and i would stop crying....I think drinking canned milk caused a lot of issues for me. Even after 48 hr's. My sis was breast fed. My late mother apologized for not breast feeding me- she said she just did what the Dr told her to do- The Dr told her to give me canned milk- IDK. why.

Profesor I heard that oxytocin is also called the love hormone and the release of the hormone makes you attached to the baby and that we administer it to prevent post partum depression. My question is who is responsible for this feeling since hormones are not related to feeling ? Is it the limbic system that is related to feelings or the oxytocin that is related to feelings ? Thank you profesor

All books and lectures are presented for a particular level of understanding. My lectures are intended to be an intermediate level of understanding of Human Physiology. EVERY topic can be presented at a more advanced, deeper and more detailed level. Yes Oxytocin does have other actions. I presented only the most important actions.

In summary: Posterior Pituatry-"Neuroohypothyisis"- releases ADH(negative feedback, retain water) and Oxytocin(positive feedback, uterine contractions, boob milk). Anterior Pituitary-"Adenohypothysis"- cuboidal epithetilial cells. Adeno=gland Parturition=Childbirth Breastfeeding is good because oxytocin causes muscle contractions that bring the uterus back to its shape prior to childbirth.

@professorfink
@professorfink 8 жыл бұрын
The neuron cell bodies are located "up" in the Hypothalamus. But the ADH neurotransmitter hormone is "released" from the synaptic knobs of the neurons "down" in the neurohypophysis. As long as you understand this, I think either answer is an acceptable one.
