In this video, Professor Fink describes the 5 major functions of the Skeletal System, including Support, Protection, Movement, Mineral Storage and Production of Blood Cells. Professor Fink then differentiates between the Axial Skeleton & the Appendicular Skeleton and reviews the majors bones of the body. The major sutures of the Skull are identified, as well as the fontanelles of the Fetal Skull. The 4 Paranasal Sinuses (Frontal, Maxillary, Sphenoidal & Ethmoidal) are described. The role of the Mastoid Air Sinus, the Eustachian Canals (Auditory Tubes) and the 3 Ear Ossicles (Malleus, Incus & Stapes) are explained, as well as Otitis Media (ear ache). Reference is made to ligaments and tendons and the Pectoral Girdle & Pelvic Girdle. Finally, Professor Fink describes a number of Pathologies & Disorders associated with the Skeletal System, including Cleft Lip,Cleft Palate, Polydacyly, Syndactyly, Spina Bifida, Clubfoot, Congenital Hip Dislocation, Osteomyelitis, Ricketts, Osteoporosis, Dwarfism, Gigantism, Acromegaly, Fracture (including Simple, Compound & Hairline Fractures), Osteomas & Osteosarcomas.

My favorite way to remember the difference between tendons and ligaments. ligaments are bone to bone, tendons are bone to muscle. Since bone is LIKE a bone, LIgaments. Like = ligaments. In tendons, muscles are NOT LIKE bones. Bone to muscle, different Bone to bone, aLIke, ligaments

thank you professor. Is there a video where you go into detail about the different parts and names of bone process in the skeletal system? like tuberosities and fossas and stuff like that? I have a test next week and the chapter is like 70 pages. I will read, yes, but i want to see and hear the names first to get familiar. Thanks.

This is a fantastic lecture. I found it very compelling. I'm currently learning about the human skeletal system in my highschool Anatomy and Physiology class, and I figured it would help my digestion after hearing it from a source other than the textbook. I'm going to have to keep up with your videos

Is there a medical way to fix an infection in the middle ear (ear ache)? I sometimes use a saline flush for my sinuses but I can't see how to flush out the middle ear if there's an infection. Thanks.

Wonderful video as always,however I thought stress fractures and greenstick fractures were different things
@professorfink
@professorfink 5 жыл бұрын
You are correct: Greenstick fracture - the bone partly fractures on one side, but does not break completely because the rest of the bone can bend. This is more common among children, whose bones are softer and more elastic. Hairline fracture - a partial fracture of the bone. ... Stress fracture - more common among athletes. What they all have in "common" is that they are "incomplete fractures"
