Yes, there have been some really bloody, violent DDoS attacks, from both sides. Sad, really as they’re all made of the same 1’s and 0’s after all. Also, both sides are horrible at rapping

nslookup does both I believe. It will allow IPs and DNS names.

In what context would it be advantageous for somebody to go through the motions of setting up their own name server? Just seems like such overkill.

Business's will use local DNS servers for local resources such as a NAS or Applications like a customer database . External DNS servers won't be able to resolve the hostname to an IP address hence why a local DNS server is required because the A record and other vital info will only be stored on the local DNS server and not on the net.
