What separates a good guitar solo from a GREAT guitar solo is when you keep replaying it in your mind over and over and over, note for note, and STILL are thrilled to hear it again. And again. And again. Speed doesn’t do that. Emotion does. Great solos are just flashy enough to make you beg for more.

The guitar solo at the end of Who's Crying Now is one of the most iconic in all of rock history. Thank God it wasn't deleted. There's nothing "cheesy" about it. It's simple and beautiful. Neal Schon made the guitar cry on that day! How totally appropriate for the song!
@HomeFries94

What I love about Neal Schon's style is that his guitar isn't just an instrument, but it's another voice with soul and inflection. David Gilmour is also in this camp, but with Neal you can hear so much emotion, almost like it's a duet with Steve Perry.

This video showed some previously released interview footage, but this time around included new material. Each time I see Neil and you (The Professor) sitting down and reminiscing about the absolute glory days of rock n roll, I hear something new that only intensifies my admiration for Journey. That Neil took you on a tour of his old stomping grounds shows he appreciates and respects the manner in which you "interview" various musicians. I've watched a lot of interviews with musicians, not only on your channel, but many others, and with you the musicians notice your authenticity toward music and the craft. They seem to decide to go a bit further with you than the interviewers of other music rags. They give to you the respect you give to them. We definitely see this in their attitude which makes for a more laid back and "friends chatting" vibe. Neil and a several others actually treat you as a long time pal. That's how well you fit in with them as you pull off the interview. The feeling I get when these musicians chat with you is as if you could call them up and say, "Hey, I'd love to hang out with again" and they'd be saying, Totally, me and the band were thinking the same". Great video, Adam.

I learn more about playing guitar from your videos than I do most tutorials. The people you interview speak to how they thought about the solo - in the end, it's not about techniques.. It's about the inspiration and solo will come out of you.. I love the line in this one "Think like a French horn" and when he says he did a solo somewhere between a trumpet and a sax. I've never thought of guitar like that but it is brilliant! As a (very) amateur guitar player - I thank you for what you do and what you are able to get out of the artists.

Love your videos… I’m a musician and songwriter and same generation as you… you have vast knowledge of your subjects and your passion for the music comes thru. Thanks for the great work that you share. PS - an interesting (albeit small detail) parallel that you didn’t touch on… Bryan Adams had Journey’s drummer, Steve Smith play on the recording of “Heaven”… his drum fills on “Heaven” are as powerful & memorable as his fills on “Faithfully”.

"Faithfully" is my #1 favourite Journey song and I also love "Who's Crying Now." Then again, I really love all their songs. Neal Schon is a phenomenal guitar player and I always loved his solos. Steve Perry just touches my heart and soul with his beautiful, unique voice. He sings with so much passion and emotion and makes me feel every note. Thank you very much for sharing the video and snippets of your interviews with Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain. It was very interesting to hear their thoughts about the songs.

I've always loved both of these songs, and I've actually done covers of both of them on my KZbin channel. I did Faithfully in the early days when I was doing all Chipmunk versions. I chose it as my first Journey cover because I did it in a Karaoke contest when my wife and I went on a cruise ship years ago. I took 2nd, which surprised everyone, including the guy who won! I fell in love with it when I was a kid, watching the video on MTV. I did Who's Crying Now a couple of years ago, including an air guitar solo. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for all you do!

Hey Professor, You should try to get John Waite on your channel and have him talk about his hit "Missing You" (A Song my father loves) as well as his days with the Babys and teaming up with Ex-Baby Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon to put out Bad English, That might be cool incites. I did hear a cool story about "Missing You" through the co-writer of the song Chas Sandford (In an interview he did with a young guy) on How John was at his house and accidentally discovered the tape and wanted to put it on his album and the rest is history!
