Love all the "hate" comments on this episode on the Beatles. It shows their music can only bring out a reaction within everyone. You are so correct that the Beatles are in a league of their own. They were a great rock band, but most of that they played out in Germany before they even started recording. They just grew so musically, they went into all genres and did it so well. The best! ❤ 🤘😎✌🙏🕊

When my father left for a pack of smokes in '69 all he left was his albums. Sargent Peppers was one of those vinyls along with Velvet Underground & Nico, Love "Forever Changes", The Sonics "Boom" among many others. The Rolling Stone History of Rock and Roll had a brief but interesting description of the Sgt. Pepper release. I lost my copy years ago. Regardless of what people think of the Monkees, they were the biggest selling group for a short time. Peppers rightfully gave the fab four their crown back. A couple of months later Billy Joe Royal hit the charts with "Hush". Writer Joe South admitted he took the na na nana from "A Day in the Life".

If I'm not mistaken, *Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band* was my second taste of the Beatles While. I was growing up, although I don't remember listening past "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" the first couple of times around. It wasn't until I was 7 years old and had been captivated by Yellow Submarine (coincidentally to when this album celebrated its 20th anniversary) that I heard the whole record from beginning to end. That makes "A Day in the Life" my first ever encore experience. I wasn't given the same warning about my mind being blown, but I was blown away by what I heard anyway, including that looped ending. That was before I had the remotest idea about the Beatles taking drugs and how it influenced their creativity. I always saw the music as its own separate entity and never wasted my time dwelling on what was in their bodies while they were recording it. I don't think my parents had that problem either. On some level, Adam, you may already have explored the breadth of the back-and-forth between the Beatles and The Beach Boys. It could potentially stand to get some attention and dedicated videos, however. I say go for it.

I literally grew up listening to this album. I’m the youngest of 6 kids and would have been 5 years old when Sgt Pepper was released. I don’t know which of my siblings bought the record but I heard it many, many times and I eventually inherited the record. I owned that copy for most of my adult life, long after I no longer had a turntable to play it on (but of course I had it on CD). I couldn’t begin to guess the number of times I’ve listened to the complete album from start to finish. A Day in the Life is the perfect final track.

The Beatles were a band that changed their sound at the end of their career. I remember a couple of years back (Around this time, apparently) I was talking to a Headbanger stating how Old Bands don't perform their new stuff live and focus mostly on their hits. And I stated how I noticed Def Leppard seems to be the only band singing their new stuff with their old stuff, and again, he changed my words around stating "See, there's a band I used to like but now their sound is changed so much I quit buying their albums as I was so disappointed" (That was before I knew what he meant there, I found at the end of the year, they went a bit grunge on their 1996 album, And on the interview that you did with them, They called it their "Suicide Album" then they went back to their old style, and then on their 2003 album, more Poppy, Which I don't mind the pop sound, but that's when the headbanger stopped listening to them. But at the time I found out when they changed their format, I showed the headbanger their 2015 album and he was surprise they still had their old sound on that, but anyway, getting back to what I was talking about) A few minutes after he wrote that, I responded how "I don't mind if bands changes their sound (paraphrasing here) as long as it works for them, if they tried to be something there not, then that won't work for them." "and then he writes later don't want all of the songs to sound alike either. But to totally change the style of your music is not for me. All bands evolve their sound to a certain extent. Just look at the Beatles. In the end, a band can do whatever they want musically but that doesn't mean I will remain a fan of them." Remember, only the serious fans don't like it if a band or their favorite artist change their format, I guess it's kind of like how when you watch a TV show and you notice the formula change on a later season and you stop watching it, but the difference with music is that we don't mind the change actually. And like I said, if the bands only tried to be something there not, it's not their sound.

Hey Professor, have you ever seen the original track listing for Sgt. Pepper? If you listen to this classic album with it's original track listing and add Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane into the track listing as these songs were done during these sessions, you get a 15 track Vaudeville type show complete with George's Within You Without you in the middle serving as an intermission. For fun, have a listen to this track listing: 1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 2. With A Little Help From My Friends 3. Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite! 4. Fixing A Hole 5. Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds 6. Getting Better 7. She's Leaving Home 8. Within You Without You 9. When I'm Sixty Four 10. Strawberry Fields Forever 11. Penny Lane 12. Lovely Rita 13. Good Morning Good Morning 14. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) 15. A Day in the Life Remember George Martin famously said that his biggest regret was not having Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane not on this album.

Sgt Pepper's was recorded several months after the 1966 release of Dylan's Blonde on Blonde that opened with Rainy Day Women #12 and 35..with a Salvation Army band playing. Dylan and Lennon shared a taxi cab ride in '66 at the end of Dylan's world tour. A few months later Dylan would have his motorcycle accident and the Beatles would hold their very last concert.
