Funny story. I graduated HS in 1986 and I LOVED this song by the Moody Blues. My friends hated it so I had to appreciate it in secret. Anyway, in 1985 my true love broke my heart when she left me for another guy. I spent decades, literally, wondering what happened to her, since after HS friends scatter like leaves in the wind. Anyway, we reconnected in 24 years later, and now have been married 15 years. It’s been utter bliss for both of us and we recognize that we never would have been mature enough to make it work had we not grown up in the intervening years. When we reconnected she was living in CA and I was in TX and within 1 week she knew she was moving to TX to be with me. So from my standpoint sometimes it does in fact pay to search out that lost love, as long as you are both mature and realistic enough to see one another for who you each have become. Thanks, Professor!! 🙏

Wow! For a moment I thought I was reading my past. In 1983 I stupidly broke off my relationship with college my girlfriend just to quickly marry someone who would have been better suited for someone else. Despite that I couldn't get that first girl out of my mind. When "In Your Wildest Dreams" came out I adopted it and used it as inspiration to search for her. I finally found her again after 23 years. After two months we moved in together. One year after reuniting we were married and have been for the last 17 years.

I tried to turn my Mom on to the Moody Blues back in the 70s, and she kind of "half listened" and didn't say much. Then, when she was in her early 80s (age wise), all of a sudden she was totally in love with the Moody Blues, and talking to me as if they were a totally new band, and as if I had never heard of them before. She requested that we play "Watching and Waiting" after she died, which we did. She's been gone 2 years now.

Sorry for your loss. My mom, still with me, did the same thing with the Boss a few years back. In the 80s, she wouldn't have dreamed of listening to my music, but by the 2000s, new country was over and she started looking around and somehow found her way to Bruce Springsteen.

I've always loved when you speak of listening to your dad's music with him and how that shaped your love of music. Instead of my Dad, it was my brother. He was 7 years older than me and was 13 in 1964. So from the time I was 6 he let me listen to all of "his music" from the English invasion on. It was such a gift that he gave me He passed away last month and I'll always be so grateful that he took the time to share his love of music with me.

I looked on all social media for my 1st true love : Valerie Barr. She moved to countryside, Illinois when her father got a new research grant in medical science. Stretching a frogs retna? She was 13 at time of move and I was 15. This was back in the Golden years of 1970's. I am now 70 years old and have never given up on finding her alive or dead. I did find 2 others that I did care about and they were gone already. Valerie was my soul mate we dated for 2 years and and I was never as happy. We lost touch because of our parents and the times we lived in.

The video for Forever Man frustrated me, and it still does. A good portion of it is the boom camera truck pulling in and out of the studio. The camera is always moving. You don’t see the guitar work, there are only flashes of the performers, and a bit more of Clapton. 1985 was a peak year for videos, but this made me turn back to listening more than watching.

You're doing great work on this channel, Adam. I love rediscovering these hits. I have to be honest, I never would have expected Clapton to appear on a list like this -- I used to be a massive fan of his but his early/mid 80s stuff isn't exactly his best (although still better than the abomination that was Pilgrim). Forever Man was a catchy tune which seemed to be all chorus with no verse, with a searing guitar solo. It was also one of the last times we got to hear him using his guitar "Blackie" before it was retired.

I can relate !! I had a GF that wanted to get married as Soon as we graduated high school. She was the first girl I ever had some serious sex with , almost daily and she had a very VERY peculiar habit . Right after we “ uncoupled “ she would grab an 8 oz bottle of Coca -Cola and “ douche “ with it , Coke streaming out and down her thighs after putting her thumb over the top / shaking bottle / inserting you know where & then letting go …… first time she did that after I had just finished I was like WTF???? She explained it was passed down from her grandmother to her mother & then to her that Coke killed the sperm & she wouldn’t get pregnant…..😳. Who was I to argue as it seemed to work for the time we were together , but I knew I didn’t want to get married right out of high school & soon after graduation we parted ways ….. 10 years later I went to my H.S. Reunion and Low & behold there she is , and we get to chatting . Seems she had married another man and shortly afterwards had popped out not one , but 3 kids in a row in about a year & a half span between each one & was actually pregnant with #4 at the reunion !! Incredibly I asked her “ What the Hell did you do , switch from Coke to Pepsi ?? “. She didn’t appreciate that at ALL for some strange reason ….😳😏😆😉🤣. TRUE STORY . She had also put on a bit of weight like another’s comment here & I had same “ did you eat the old girlfriend “ thoughts as well …. Yeah , I’m going straight to HELL …. 😁

I agree 100% about Something About You. I used to hear this on the radio all the time and it was always the song between others so the DJ never said what it was. This was before the internet, much less Shazam, my parents banned MTV in my house, and I couldn't sing worth a damn- so I was left for about 15 years loving the song and never figuring out who sang it. Finally, when I was a little older on a trip with my church's Youth Pastor, he asked if I've ever heard of Level 42. I said No so he said "you're a musician so you'll love em." Three tracks in Something About You came on and I lost my shit! I felt like so many did after figuring out who FEX was(IYKYK). Ever since then, I've had it on heavy rotation.

Justin Hayward is one of the greatest singers of all time...Phil Collins was so ubiquitous during the 80's...Bryan Adams is music royalty in my city, he grew up not far away from where I did. I think I've seen him in concert more than any other artist and his shows are always great...I loved "Layla" but it wasn't until "Forever Man" that I actually/finally became an Eric Clapton fan...that is a damn fine pick for your favourite song of all time, Prof good call. Saw Bryan Adams last year in San Francisco. Expected to see a lot of 60-somethings reliving their youth. Nope. Crowd was filled with young people, mostly girls, who could sing along with every one of his songs. Pretty cool. He put on a great show once he warmed up.

If you guys didn't notice, The video for "Forever Man" features a lot of talented musicians which includes Dean Parks, Michael Omartian, the Late Great Jeff Porcaro, Marcy Levy (Marcella Detroit from Siobhan Fahey's group Shakespears Sister) and Yvonne Ellman, And speaking Shakesspears Sister, you should do something on them and their song "Stay" that might be something interesting to document, since Marcy was a backup singer prior to the formation of the duo.

@@FenellaBeach Okay, Thanks for the Correction. Years ago, When I was on Wikipedia, I saw those names that I mentioned above listed there. This is why I dislike Wikipedia (and get upset at people quoting Wikipedia in the comment section or whatever) Wikipedia is a site where people can edit and put their own info there (and how you know it's reliable if they have a source to hence numbers. If there's no source for it, there will be no links or "citation needed") There was a Teen News Show I watched when I was young where a student did his homework and got his info off Wikipedia and the teacher got upset at that because people can put out their own info on Wikipedia, so it can't be reliable
