Eric, for the record I DO take everything that you say as gospel! When I come to your shop or watch your videos, I just listen and try to soak it all in. Not often that a world class head porter will take the time to answer my dumb questions, share tricks of the trade, and have the patience to deal with us that are just trying to get better at the craft. Great video as always and thank you for posting.

The afr will out perform significantly...much better flow & port velocity across low lift to high, peak hp may not differ alot between the two but afr will make more useable power across rpm range. Bet

The air temperature and relative humidity of the air matters in terms of the flow numbers. So does altitude, or better yet barometric pressure, which gets lower as you get higher above sea level. I believe what they machine is doing is it is calculating Standard CFM, which means it's adjusted for the air temperature, relative humidity and barometric pressure, giving you a number that is comparable at sea level with a standard air temperature and relative humidity, which I forget exactly what those figures are.

We have to seek out constructive criticism. It helps us grow and improve. If we cannot take that then who cares about the positive criticism Bc that won’t help you to think outside the box and develop your program or yourself or whatever tf you are working on. Anyways. Cool video and thanks. We shouldn’t have to preface a critique. It’s ridiculous in my opinion. If we aren’t adult enough to be able to accept that and be thankful for it then we are not adults. On top of the 582 we are building, which you are doing the BB3 363 heads for. We also have a 383 that we are finishing up for our cruiser. We went with these AFR street CNC heads and a .583" cam (w/ 1.6 rocker correction). Great info, I was surprised to see the AFR's had a lower exhaust port flow. Exhaust flow is something they seem to do extremely well. However, it makes sense with the Profiler's raised exhaust ports.

AFR rock on the exhaust flow numbers which I believe are a lot more important than a lot of people think. No idea how they relate to any factory heads however they generally perform near the top in cylinder head tests for power production.

@@Parents_of_Twins Yeah they are top, those profilers are the best head going now due to flow and price. AFR has priced themselves out of competition unless their "AS CAST" head will flow 270+ but that would have everyone buying them and not buying their "CNC STUFF!! @Eric Weingartner Do you think a cartridge/smoothing roll clean up or smoothing on the profiler would help flow any? Maybe 5cfm across the range?? If so it's got AFR beat!

Why would the race bowl have the wing or vein angled toward the shrouded side of the valve. It’s angled toward the open side for a reason to create more velocity to the center of the combustion chamber.

Not my specialty, but surface finish on a casting seems to be a function of two things: grade of casting sand, and the release agent used. Whether somebody figured out a better process or regulatory changes made some release agent obsolete, I have no idea. edit: Those profilers... those exhaust bolt locations make me think of a 1470 gasket more than a 1406. Can you confirm which is closer? Thanks.

What would happen if the runners were worked on the profiler simialer to the afr's
@gregmcnamara2563
@gregmcnamara2563 3 жыл бұрын
The difference in casting finish is due to different casting technology. Sand cast (Lumpy, larger variances, slower production, and more expensive) versus investment casting such as lost foam casting (Cheaper, more accurate, faster, better surface finish, less machining). It enables them to produce more complicated castings with internal passages etc, with greater accuracy and no core shift. Almost all engine blocks, heads, driveline castings, and industrial equipment are now made that way. Check out some KZbin video’s on it.

This was great to see the Profiler-machined Profiler heads vs. my Jegs-rebranded Profiler 195cc heads. Obviously if you get them assembled the components from Profiler will be way better than whatever chinese parts are cheapest @ Jegs, but I didn't realize the difference in how the bowls are blended until this video. The nice hand-made burr bowl blend that Eric showed is WAY better than what looks like some machined grinding of any core shifting that sticks out into the bowl that my Jegs heads had. The Jegs heads were just cut maybe 1/2" into the bowl from the valve seat and that's it. There were some huge lips beyond that that never got addressed AND the machining was smooth. (It's my understanding that this is one of the more critical areas to have a rough texture to keep fuel in solution).

The Profiler exhaust ports ARE raised a lot, but the REAL problem with header fitment is that the bolt holes aren't centered on the port! There's basically NO off-the-shelf 1 5/8" header that won't block the "good air" at the top of the port with the bolt holes where they are. You have to weld and redrill or slot and fill header bolt holes or just step up to at least a 1 3/4" header with those stupid exhaust ports. -No reason for them not to revise where they put the exhaust bolt holes and just center them on the port so an off-the-shelf 1 5/8" header fits. I love my Profilers, but not having a header that fits anything worse of terribly just because they won't move a bolt hole is just inexcusable.

@@normhodgkinson6965 There’s a company called ATK; they sell a lot of crate engines but they also have a custom casting of the profiler heads that has a regular height Chevy exhaust port. You did one video on the enforcer heads and all anybody took from it was AFR heads are cast over seas lol. Nobody pays attention 🤦‍♂️ I agree about the deck thing. You can get pretty wild on a stock Ls casting if the tune is good. Missing the tune is when you really start destroying parts

So i have had afr and later brodix. Afr is unbeatable for out the box bolt on and run heads, after my dragon slayers had seals installed after installing on car btw then porting I'm very happy with them but I probably should have just gone afr 225 heads. Live and learn, spark plug fitment is also better with afr vs brodix

hi the 195 has a street version 2.05 valve [base version] and a [premium] race ready head also known as Competition head 2.08 valve .DIFFERENT to the larger heads ,.....Confusing yes .....eg basic is a race ready and a premium is the Comp version in the 210version etc . AFR list 195 street version pinch as 1.905

Hi David Visard finds that a 194 intake out flows a 2.02 the seat is a 2.02 but the valve is not he states it is less shrouding in the chamber I've tryed it and its the truth ,pay attention to quench side of the exhaust port the contour is a rounded edge into the port from the quench surface and valve edge contour front n back need to be rounded Bolth are worth 30 to 40 hp
@WeingartnerRacing
@WeingartnerRacing 2 жыл бұрын
I have not found that to be the case. If you put a 2.02 valve in and it flows worse than 1.94 then you should do a better job of porting. It only flows worse when there is no port work done.

I purchased a set of #1040 l98 angle plug 195 street eliminator around September 2019, and I can say without a doubt the casting on your bench is not the same at all. For all the reasons you point out. Hope they haven't started using the chinese castings and still charging the same price they did for a 100% american made product. That makes me want to rip the heads off and call you or Spierr for a new set that I know is supporting American jobs. At least I got the good edelbrock castings I guess. 😔 Cheap bastards.

Who would get a head and valves etc and expect to slap them together. Not me. Check the installed heights, lap the valves and blue them and hone the guides if ness. You could even cc them if you wanted. May as well.

Little off topic for this video. But how fare can you push the bowl size on the older GM castings such as the 291 currently porting a set. Btw. Love your content. Ive definitely learend a lot from your channel and I hope to learn more

Apparently you have to not cut the eye/root area to completely avoid the fumes cutting an onion. Learned that yesterday.

If it looks like "offshore"....Smells like "Offsore"....Well....One more thing....AFR used to back a few years ago source their valves from KAR Valves of India....I don't really want hardware like that in my builds...Might survive in a "Fairgrounds Cruiser" but, something used hard at the racetrack? Nope! Not a fan of AFR anymore....

Why do you test the airflow at 1.00" lift?? Nobody using THESE heads has a cam even CLOSE to that much lift. 🤔

Another excellent video. I would like to see more information on Spring size and also how much difference is there blending the area from the valve seat to the chamber. I think it would be important to show your phone number and email address very plainly because it is really hard to make out and you sure earned it. Thanks
