In celebration of Profile Racing's 50th anniversary, owner and founder, Jim Alley, invites us into the company's original Florida location where some sections of this dark and dusty industrial cave have been sealed off since 2004.
Over time, this building (appropriately named "The Dungeon" by employees) has become a time capsule; a host to historical artifacts capturing Profile's legacy in both the automotive and bicycle industry.
Join us on this multi-episode series as we press record and let Jim imbue his wealth of knowledge on conjured pieces of the past.
This is From the Dungeon.
Welcome.

I was so lucky to spend time at a shop that specialized in BMX. The owner had a large collection of race bikes back in 85. A collection that grew and grew until his relatively recent passing. I got to ride everything, Norco, Pandas, everything. But the standouts were always those chrome Profile and Hutch parts. There was Skyway TAs, Thruster tri powers, Redline cranks everywhere, GTs etc... those were the days. Now I ride a Deco, a S&M and a Standard 125r, all of them are decked out with Profile parts, a lot of it in that beautiful chrome just to take me back to the 80s and Classic bike shop in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. RIP Rollie Hilger, and thanks Profile for all you've done for BMX. I'm buying my son his first set of Profile cranks for Xmas

I started racing in 81 with a Thruster 2 at the WWBA track in Oakland NJ . It was amazing times in BMX lots of innovation I remember some kid having a titanium frame not sure if it was a titan or custom but it was raw with no stickers. I later moved on to a PK that I bought with paper route money. Great times!!

Love the Shelby James frame. I have one built following a review in a BMX magazine, with each part listed in the review. I also have a NOS frame set.

Awesome video Jim, Saw a good amount of those Hutch Bikes with the bullet hole cutout when i was in Ohio this summer. That was at the Buckeye Bike show. I am pretty sure I saw a few profile frames as well there

I rode both Hutch and Profile frames in the early 80’s. I knew they were pretty much identical but didn’t know that Profile made Hutch. Such great info on BMX history. Wanted to ride Profile because of Eric Rupe, then wanted to ride Hutch because of Charlie Williams. One weak point on those frames was the brake bridge. They cracked a lot. We would use those little aluminum disc’s from matthauser brake shoes to distribute the force. They worked great and looked pretty cool.

I wish you'd start building frames again. Maybe, a deal with Deco to out your name on some they build or something. Every bike or frame I get since the early 90's gets wrapped in Profile pretty much anyway. A profile bike, I'd buy one.

I rode a hutch when I first started racing, Won the 16x Ontario championship in 1986 on the Profile frame. never knew about this connection until today! I ride a 26" DJ theses days and would love to see a steel Profile frame with the iconic little tube!

I had a Profile Champ Pro in the 80’s. I started racing again in 2013. I’d really be interested in a modern geometry Profile frame with the large down tube and signature cross bar!

Very cool info👍. I loved my Champ Pro!! I’m guessing my frame was probably a 1984 manufacture date. Just out of curiosity, several people I knew, including myself, had rear stay spacing that was too narrow. We had to manually stretch the frames to get the wheels in. Is that an issue that was known?
