Why are we using a bridge diode? In converting ac to dc
@thanlinlungsimon6120
@thanlinlungsimon6120 2 жыл бұрын
In AC, both the lines comes with positive and negative alternatively (mixed) so we use diode rectifier to collect only positive charge to the positive line and to collect only the negative to the negative. Thus we get a pure dc wave.

Not totally correct, I'm afraid. Use of a larger-value capacitor would better smooth out the ripple in the pulsating DC output to an acceptable level. The VOLTAGE REGULATOR is used to ensure this smoothed DC voltage remains at a constant value despite changes in load current drain.
@Amy_Price
@Amy_Price 2 жыл бұрын
How about the inductor to better smooth the ripple and control fast-peak current? Give me a hint, I want to create a full-wave rectifier diode bridge and build-in into the wall socket (I have already all i needed), ~230AC --> ⎓230DC separate high-voltage DC (maximum smoothed ripple) for convenience and special purposes, of course, for local protection from the main household wiring - 50Amp fusible ceramic fuse... To be clear - I'm not a noob, and i know what to do, electronics has been my passion for many years. So, what do you think about this - the optimal values of capacitors(many people recommend using 3 different capacitors - 1 main large-value and 2 smaller); Polarized or variable capacitor; ceramic, metalized polyester film or aluminum electrolytic?; Inductance coil: - type and inductance value; Necessary or needless - transformer with an insulating coil ~230-230v for galvanic isolation(more safety)?

I have another idea and I can't believe nobody ever mentions it. Combine two alternating square waves. First you convert the DC into an alternating square wave with a 555 timer you might need 2 and make sure they're the same frequency with the capacitor and resistors. Now about change the resistor values for the other one to ensure its off by 180 degrees. And just like that pure dc with nearly 0% power loss.

Can you please answer my questions 1) why are we using bridge diode? 2) what is the input voltage and the output.. 3) what transformer do?
@Profmad
@Profmad 3 жыл бұрын
1. diode bridge is rectifying the current (we normally called this diode arrangement as rectifier ) 2. input and output voltage depend on your components. In this example, we used input as 230VAC and Output 12VDC. 3. Transformers can increase or decrease voltage level, in here we have used stepdown transformer, that means , this transformer decreases the voltage level. Hope this will answer your questions,

It seems that the plot showed the capacitor was not discharging normally, and I would like a little clarification if possible. Again, great video!

So actually the dips u see right before constant DC is due to AC harmonics or the reactive component Vosin(phase) is complex and frequency the domain which looks like noise when it comes to an applied voltage. It's in the form of harmonics or resonance like how sound vibrates and causes a object to shake. It's not constant due to these frequencies. To absorb that sound something like what a sponge or shocks do we use a capacitor which stabilizes the oscillations to a standing DC voltage
