If only we had Chris ballard as a GM. We could draft upside guys who never develop but at least people would talk about how genius our drafting is.

If they're not even gonna bother researching the teams then why even cover them? Kirk and Engram are over the middle receivers. One of the issues for the Jags last year was not having a deep threat that could get separation. Ridley was terrible in YAC and once teams figured out he struggled when being jammed he couldn't beat his guy. Lawrence was also really good throwing deep last year and ranked in the top 7 in those categories. If you're going to be an outlet devoted to stats, maybe actually look at them.

This was confusing particularly because they made the opposite argument about Kirk when they brought Davis in after missing out on Ridley.

Thats wild to start the draft analysis harping on the 7th round draft pick.
@smyers90526 ай бұрын
Have to say, when the Jags lost out on Ridley in FA and brought in Davis, this show made the case that while Davis wasn’t as good as Ridley, he might be a better fit for the offense. The argument was that Ridley and Kirk are both intermediate receivers who run great routes, and that this was overly duplicative; Davis, the reasoning went, was a better fit because he brought a different angle to the offense. So how did we go from that to arguing that the Jags are entirely reliant on vertical receivers, Kirk included. And of course, totally glossing over the presence of Engram, who is basically a big slot who mostly works underneath.

Christian Kirk and Evan Engram are both underneath high volume receivers so actually adding two deep threats to a team that didn’t have any last year to where the entire defense can just sit on routes is a Welcome change.

@mdh18806 ай бұрын
Kirk is literally a great route runner and can get underneath or cross the middle open. Davis and BTJ will stretch the vertical game. How can you also discount Even Engram? Worried about short yardage and you have a 100 catch TE with Kirk underneath and across the middle? On top of Etienne in and out of the backfield. The offense has balance. Last few years it was mainly horizontal. Ridley and T Law were never on the same page whether it be the wrong route ran or dropped passes from him.

Also, while Maason Smith has 4th round tape in my mind, his high end play was enough to earn him a respectable 76+ pass rushing grade in 2023, despite coming off the injury. That’s a good mark for an SEC tackle. So “he graded out at 65” might not be the best way to think about his potential. Clearly he was drafted not just for generalized “upside” but because he’s a talented kid, coming off major injury, who had the best season of his career and showed some legit juice as a pass rushing player. I just feel like this could have been a more complete and nuanced analysis, even if the conclusion -that Smith was overdrafted - is probably true.
@GoingInSaiyan6 ай бұрын
Smith was absolutely overdrafted, but that loses any credibility when these guys try an make an argument against arguably the 2nd best wideout in the draft going to Jacksonville. If the Bills would've grabbed BTJ it would've been the smartest move in their franchises draft history ( besides Josh Allen ). It's typical media witch hunt nonsense that is always aimed at the Jaguars each, and every off-season.

BTJ is a boom or bust ? Listen, I get being skeptical after Justin Blackmon right? but, BTJ had the most receptions, a QUARTER of his total receptions went for 6. His YAC and deep threat is /insane/. Did you seriously say you don't love the BTJ pick because of the offense that is already in place? The offense that collapsed went tlaw and kirk got hurt ? Absolutely ridiculous. For this first time in his professional career Trevor Lawerence finally has a true wr1 deep threat WR which is what he had in Higgins at clemson. Jarrion Jones in the third is a boom or bust? Dude ran a 4.38 40 and hasn't allowed a TD since, '22. Mason Smith is the only player which a question mark above his head. The rest of the picks were insane even more so where we got them. Take the Tackle out of Mizzou who won an SEC player award of the year. Typical media witch hunt against the jaguars.
