I listened to your advice on not going Profoto if you are beginning photographer, but instead go Godox, my question is reliability and after sell support which is better? based on your previous video on the b10 you stated how you got the light replaced for $288 or thereabout. How many manufacturers would do this? I feel people to buy once the best they can afford and be done with it. I purchased when I started out a Speedotron 2400 w/s system that last for 30 years, and believe me if I could I would do it again but they are not sold in Australia. So it's between Profoto, Bowen, Elinchrom or Broncolor. Of course Profoto won out. Now this video and the last you are stating why to not purchase the B10 Plus and I have a B1 already and was about to get the B1X. However the B10 Plus looks great, I just need to work out if its recycling time can keep up with my camera. Thanks for your insightful review and I understand why you wouldn't upgrade, but my travel is not as much as you or others and I shoot 90% in the studio.

Glad you were able to clarify as I’m sure some people could be-confused. To be fair, I would not say “only a 1stop difference” as I greatly appreciate the 500+ watts of the new B10 plus. As you and others have pointed out the b10 is not 250 watts, or at least it doesn’t behave at that output, it behaves more like a 400watt light. I cannot wait to see what the b10 plus outputs. If it is a full stop above the b10 I am getting a pair for sure and selling my B1,s. Most people don’t need the B10 plus, the B10 is perfect, but being able modify outdoors with larger groups is amazing. What I missed about my 7B pack the most. 1200watts outdoors was a dream. That car battery though :/
@travisharrisphotography5 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, thanks so much. It's true however it's only one stop of a difference. In fact I have now seen and confirmed that the real world difference is not even a full stop its about 0.8 stop at max. This truly results in about 2 feet at the most of distance to your subject in my testing. Very few photographs are in situations where this makes or brakes the shot. Especially ones who think outside the box. This was kinda my point. I guess I feel profoto should have done more here. They should have made a 800ws light or above at this form factor. The b10 plus is much larger than I thought too. It's not much smaller than a b1x in terms of length and that's disappointing considering what the b10 does. This of course is all in addition to the other real world issues I spoke about. It's a very hard light to justify for most people.
@JMDPhotography-Chi5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the people you’re addressing don’t understand f stops and the difference using profoto’s power system also to be fair power comparisons between the B10 and the B1x was about .5 stops difference. You’re still getting more light with the Plus but it’s just a little under 1 stop difference

Hi,Travis,I am wondering that whether B10 has freeze mode?I take stilllife photos a lot with B1X ,which enable me to catch the moment of water splash or other fast move things.Recently I am considering to invest B10/B10+ kits,but I failed to find the flash duration data on the official website😥
@jaimecasal99155 жыл бұрын
I have the B10 and it does have Freeze mode but you can only use freeze mode at or below x-sync speeds. If you google "Profoto B10 manual" you can see the details there as well. However, I haven't found any data yet on flash duration, I don't believe Profoto posts that data. But somebody with a new fancy light meter and 10 minutes of time could measure each level of power, that info is bound to pop up on the interwebs eventually.

The confusion is in the terms being used. The wattage is the electrical energy the core can produce. The question however, is how much light output does the strobe converts from the electric energy(watts) Power does not necessarily equate to light output, due to efficiency issues.

There ya go! Good job :-) Yeah, I tend to try and make things as simple as possible as it relates to the real world use out in the field.

But I was hoping for a unit the size of the B1x with the new electronics of the B10 and hoping for an output of 1000WS. I have to light bigger sports teams like football, track, etc and that can be a hundred or more players outside so I will take all the power I can get. The B1X isn't going anywhere within 18 months because it serves a different purpose in the lineup. For instance, larger modifiers such as the 5ft Octa are not recommended for the B10 series but work fine with the B1X (and it's more studio dedicated relative the D series). Furthermore, the B1X is self-serviceable for changing the flash tube and/or if you'd like to use the dome accessory to optimize the 77 degree light spread for use in those aforementioned larger modifiers and beauty dishes. The B10 series is not self-serviceable and anything requiring the front "element" to be removed has to be sent in for service. In addition, as you did mention, the B1X is constructed more robustly with a heavier duty housing and for some purposes, the location of the B1X's carry handle on that more robust housing is more practical as well. The battery is rated at 325 full power pops on the B1X and 200 on the B10 Plus. I'd rather have the option of shooting longer on location with no mains power available. Another key item to note, is that the recycling time of the B1X will remain consistent over an extended amount of pops whereas the B10 series will begin to slow at some point (this could speak to output and/or color temperature consistency as well, but perhaps not, time and testing may tell). Although the B10 series is slightly more portable if you will, the B1 series remains portable as well. I doubt if the B10's will be as reliable duty-wise in rental houses worldwide also. So there are a host of differences below the surfaces of these products as well as reasons to keep the B1 series development in Profoto's product lineup.

We will see! You saying as a fact it's not going anywhere is as effective as me saying it is lol. Tho, I agree with you, although the difference is more than slight between the size of the b10 and b1x. It's significant. 6.6 pounds VS 3.2. As I said in the video, I maybe wrong about the b1x.
