You are an excellent tutor!! Instead of hiring a tutor for my *Intermediate Algebra" class, I now just go to your KZbin channel, and watch your videos. Since I have been watching your videos, my Intermediate Algebra grade has gone from a D- to a B+. Thank you so much for putting your algebra videos here on KZbin.

ProfRobBob Mr. & Mrs. Tarrou, I am not making a career change, but I will be graduating this December with an AA/academic studies degree; this is my last subject. I am foreign born and we did not have colleges where I grew up; we do now. I know “we are never too old to learn” and it’s truly a blessing to live in this wonderful country; “the land of opportunities.” Also, Mr. Tarrou I feel like teaching math is your calling, because your teaching techniques help us understand the material. I spent hundreds of dollars on tutors in the past, but I'm grateful I found your channel. May you and Cheryl be blessed always!

A Lauris We too are grateful you found this channel so helpful and we are glad you took the time to share your story and appreciation with us! Please know that in December when you receive your AA degree, that we are there in spirit, applauding you on your grand accomplishment. You're so right that "it's never too late to learn" and pursue your dreams:) Please let us know when you graduate...until then, thank you again for your support and all the kind words. Students like you are why I love to teach!!! ~ Best Regards, Rob & Cheryl

How do you do? Can I graph a line -2X+1, by changing it into -2/1x+1?
@HERKFOOT219 жыл бұрын
You really do make the best straight lines without a ruler! I'm going into pre cal and i just wanted to know what i'm going into. After just finishing trig the videos of this play list so far seem like a review of algebra 1 with the slope stuff and i kno i did good with that so that won't be hard to remember. Is trig going to come back into pre cal? will we be doing a lot of those trig proofs again? (which i know were your absolute favorite of all math! lol) thanks again i just wanna make sure i'm prepared!
@profrobbob9 жыл бұрын
HERKFOOT21 So you took Alg 2 and took Trig as well? If Algebra 2 was honors level and you did very well and Trig was an an entire semester course PreCalc will be a lot of review of skills you already know but should go faster than you are used to. Trig will be in a few chapters of PreCalc and the last chapter covered should be introducing you to limits for Calculus.

BAM! (Sorry I had to add it in for you Proffessor RobBob! ) Anyway, so I'm not sure if this is even a valid question, but here goes. Atleast for linear graphs, it seems like all equations are solved for Y... We always either plug in numbers and always are interested in the Y value, or Y intercept. Why is this? Why can't we find the slope using X = my+b ? Or just solve for X instead of Y?
@profrobbob6 жыл бұрын
Remember we have our independent or explanatory variable on the X axis and the dependent or response variable on the Y axis. Therefore it is natural to find slope as rise/run... or a better definition is the amount of change in y per one unit of change in x. This written definition is much better for word problems and interpreting what slope represents in a real world setting. X is explaining the change in y basically. Now this being said, when you get to Calculus and start finding slopes along a curved graph it can be easier to find the rate of change along the y axis instead of the normal x axis. The derivative (slope) of y=x^2 is described by dy/dx=2x... this is going to keep the x axis as the independent variable basically. If you have a parabola opening sideways with the equation x=y^2, the derivative (slope) can be found with the equation of dx/dy=2y. If you solved it for y, getting y equals plus or minus the square root of x. The derivative of this equation is more complicated to work with and not a good option. So you have a valid question, but finding slope with equations solved for x instead of y is something I doubt you will do until Calculus. BAM!!! haha This video is about integrals instead of integration, but it deals with the same idea kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2TFqaWfepiLmK8

Could you do a video where you have the slope but no b? ex. y=-1/4x
@profrobbob11 жыл бұрын
For your equation the y intercept is 0 since there is no apparent constant b, and the slope is -1/4 or down 1 and right 4 from the y-intercept of 0.
