Great interview good insight on almost every part of the application but US LOR thing is kind of depressing to me with outstanding scores and ECFMG certified but no visa only home country LORs and i think some of the things in application are not in our control 🤨

Currently covid has greatly restricted IMG access to hospitals in the US, doing hands-on rotations through companies like AMO or Brooklyn USCE on private clinics count as good exposure to the US health system?
@matcharesident
@matcharesident 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! You can read about finding USCE in our blog post here: blog.matcharesident.com/find-us-clinical-experience/ There are mixed reviews regarding paid USCE. We can't recommend organizations specifically, you can research and see what opportunities are out there. We can say, however, that any USCE is better than none.

if i want to buy the service for program lists for the upcoming match, I am planning to have a USCE in the month of july, should i choose as having a USCE or not. also when is the best time to buying the program for the lists.
@matcharesident
@matcharesident 2 жыл бұрын
You can purchase your list at any time (it won't expire until February/March, depending on the package you select). The earlier, the better, so you can get started on your program research! You should select that you do have USCE since you will have that experience before applying in September, so you can include on your ERAS application.

When would the last date be for IMGs to take Step 2 CK for the 2022-2023 cycle? My understanding is that, for IMGs, applying after September 29th decreases chances of getting an interview. So does this mean step 2 CK must be taken by end of August 2022? Thank you
@matcharesident

Hi! Yes, you definitely want to apply on time and have both Step scores available at the time of application. Technically, this is not a requirement to apply, however it is strongly recommended. You'll also want to make sure to keep track of each program's individual application deadline!

17:40 How would a residency director view LORs from clerkships/rotations done in the UK as a US citizen who is going to a Caribbean school? Are US referrals really what I should focus on since doing 3rd year in the UK for clerkships? Should I not worry about/throw out my UK LORs?
@matcharesident
@matcharesident 2 жыл бұрын
US LoRs are always preferred - but you should not dismiss (or throw out!) your UK LoRs, as they too hold value :)

Do we need to have oet given when applying? Or can we apply with step 1 and step 2 scores and then give oet after September 2022?
@matcharesident
@matcharesident 2 жыл бұрын
You can check out official deadlines at the link below. However, there are programs that require you to be fully ECFMG-certified AT THE TIME of application, so that's something you'll want to confirm. This information is included in our program info in Match A Resident as well! www.ecfmg.org/certification-requirements-2023-match/

I would have been interested to hear his remarks on Step 1 being reported as a numerical result for applicants that took it before it went to pass/fail vs the applicants that have it show up as pass/fail only. Listening to him talk about having to emphasis step scores due to the number of applicants, it seems like it leads to discrimination for the applicants that have the numerical result reported.

I am an IMG graduated in 2020 completed my compulsory inter year of training in 2021. Please guide me which is better for me as I have a very short time for passing Step 1 and Step 2 CK, I want to apply for General Surgery Preliminary position this year, 1, Should I Pass step 1 and send application to programs without step 2 CK score. 2, Should I first I take step 2 CK and send application to programs without passing step 1. 3, Should I pass step 1 and step 2 CK and then apply to programs in December 2022 after passing both step ?
@matcharesident
@matcharesident 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Unfortunately none of those are great options. Applying in December is absolutely the least favorable option. You will have a very small chance of any programs reviewing your application at that time. Applying with a P/F Step 1 score and no Step 2 score may decrease your chances of interviews. Number 2, while not ideal, is probably the best option of the 3. You could also consider waiting until the 2023-24 Match and gaining US clinical experience in your field until then, so you can apply with both Steps done and USCE/US LoRs, which would be the best case scenario!

I dont understand, why are you in a haste, you need to be ECFMG certified, and that cant happen without step 1, step 2 CK and OET exam.....I have never heard if people applying with only step 1

Not at all! Directors view your entire application as well as your interview. Make sure to apply to the programs that do NOT require USCE, which you can see using MAR!
