Very well explained! Thank you. Do you have any resource which compares the security and scalability of using cloud vs permissionless blockchain (e.g. Ethereum) vs private, permissioned blockchain (e.g. BaaS) vs tangle (Iota)?

@Ivan, How scalable is Ethereum in its current state in your opinion. Can it satisfy a wider user base than Bitcoin with its current capabilities or do you see some issues here?

You mentioned how Ethereum can change how the internet works. How does Ethereum's technology compare to that of MaidSafe decentralized internet project? Do you think the MaidSafe project has more potential?

my question is these dapps that can be processed by the ethereum virtual machine, how do they get to store data for their calculations. Is it stored like a copy on every node?
@IvanOnTech7 жыл бұрын
yes, that's the way I understand it, all full nodes perform all calculations and get all data they need for these calculations
@owlfrisky45707 жыл бұрын
that sounds like it'll fill up storage very quick!

Thanks man! Yes, PoS will increase the performance, in this video we discuss some other ways to improve scalability. But you're right I should've mentioned PoS here as well as a way to boost performance.

@ivan on tech - What do you think about implementing something like rotating node transaction verifications along with issuing master/skeleton keys to individual nodes in order to facilitate cross node communication? I'm not a dev but just wondering if the principle is viable.

I agree that the second option of 'having multiple blockchains' is a problem for Proof of Work blockchains because as Ivan accurately points out, that would split the hashing power and make the smaller networks vulnerable to 51% attack from miners who run the bigger networks... But for Proof of Stake blockchains, that wouldn't be a problem because hashing power is not relevant. 51% attacks would only be possible with PoS if a hacker manages to buy up more than 50% of all the tokens which would be very expensive for them - By the time they finish buying up those tokens, they would no longer have an incentive to hack the token anymore since they would be majority token-holder by that point and would suffer the most from a hack. Also, it should be noted that the 'multiple blockchain' solution is by far the simplest and most efficient to implement. If we have a decentralized way to connect the different tokens together, then this is the perfect solution IMO.

Great info as always.. I think Vitalik says in his meetup that they are planning to create virtual mining following a protocol at nodes. Is sharding part of that plan? Not sure if it'll reduce or increase the hash rate with that virtualization. Vitalik's explanation at 1:04:25 for the PoS question, thats awesome. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3encqeJqbuLmMU

I don't think it's a good idea to have all the hashing power in only one blockchain, because it's a single point of failure. Furthermore a high number of blockchains will promote innovation because of competition it induce. Think about LTC that implemente segwit before BTC, because LTC is more decentralised because of not using SHA256 but a hashing algorithm that is less ASIC firendly. It's butterfly effect : if SW2x fail, lightning network won't work on BTC blockchain and maybe LTC would crush the game. All of this just because of a cosmetic changing in hashing algorithm. When LTC has changed to Scrypt, nobody expected such diffrence between BTC and LTC may happen. That' why we need a lot of different decentralized ledgers, because we do'nt know what the futur is made of.
