Hey everyone, just a heads up. I actually made a mistake when speaking about the volume landmarks. MAV and MRV should be swapped in my explanation. My apologies for the mixup!

Thanks for clearing that up Bryce - Do you ever think you and Mike T could maybe do a video together discussing your shared thoughts/experiences lifting equipped? In particular how he/you would go about training on your own without training partners to help you get in/out of the equipment or give you a hand off/spot...? I've never tried lifting equipped but think your recent content on it has been really interesting.

could you do a video on single ply lifting for strongman, I haven't seen anything on the training for it. of course it's usually a mixture between singles and max reps in a minute for squats and deadlifts

A lot or most of these principles can be applied to classic lifting as well, so I’m glad you dug it!

Great video, Bryce. Big fan of being in some sort of gear frequently, as well as banging out reps. It's gross but worthwhile.

Thank you so much for this video. Information about programming for equipped single ply lifting is very hard to come by. Quick question: I'm competing at Bay Noppers this summer (4th overall, 1st equipped meet), and I was wondering if I can deadlift in a squat suit? I do it in training, and technically the squat suit is IPF approved, but I don't know if it's only approved for squatting or all three of the lifts. I like the bit of added benefit of deadlifting in a squat suit, but don't really have the money right now to go out and buy a deadlift suit, so it's my best option for now.
@theykilledhim
@theykilledhim 5 жыл бұрын
Kevin Welch yea you can deadlift in your squat suit, that's exactly what I did my first equipped meet. Some people choose to turn them around and wear them backwards as well to make them more like a deadlift suit.

Do you recommend training in your gear year-round? Or having a raw offseason and adding gear as a meet approaches?
@llleerrooyy

Do not train with your gear all the time, terrible idea.
@philippc
@philippc 3 жыл бұрын
@@llleerrooyy Why would it be? If you have slightly looser training gear and do stuff like straps down/partials etc, what's the problem? What's wrong with honing a skill repeatedly? If you're thinking burnout, again, looser gear and singles that move like an opener shouldn't cause issues.

@@philippc I dont think year round geared lifting is a good idea. Focus on getting your raw lifts up in offseason and start lifting eqquipped around 6 weeks out.

@calgarybarbell

Mike T has some good videos on the RTS channel, specifically about benching alone. The biggest thing is to figure out how you can be in the safest positions possible. Spotting blocks/arms, monolift arm attachments for the bench, things like that can go a long ways.

What about cluster singles or doubles instead of higher rep sets? Then full range of motion for all sets and reps

In the 8 week program, you do a 3x3 then 2x5 having a total of 19 reps. What's the difference between that and doing 4x5? I see something like this in a lot of programs. Just wanna know logic behind it.
@calgarybarbell
@calgarybarbell 5 жыл бұрын
IIRC, my intent was doing a heavier load first, to get a solid strength stimulus in, and the theory was that the lighter stuff after, in a fatigued or somewhat fatigued state, would allow the lifter to hammer technique.

Great Video! Just wanted to know your thoughts on the conjugate method for equipped lifting? Do you agree with using different variations to avoid accommodation? Also do you have an opinion on using looser gear to get in the gear more than once a week. Thanks again for all the free info you provide.
@calgarybarbell
@calgarybarbell 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t have much experience with the truest form of what most consider to be “conjugate”. But I do swap special exercises to try and find ones that give the best carryover, although I very rarely if ever completely remove comp lifts. I think it’s less about avoiding accommodation and more about finding what works for the lifter. I also only swap out exercises from full block to full block. Using looser gear or a pair of briefs could be a great way to help learn stuff. Again - not much experience there.

Do you find it helpful to wear anything specific underneath the gear like under armor or something similar to reduce the wear and tear on the skin?
@calgarybarbell
@calgarybarbell 3 жыл бұрын
No, I don’t believe you actually can in competitions. The skin will adapt just like anything else. It just sucks the first few times!

Over all this way of lifting is cheating and only an ego boost. It serves no benefit because you wont be in that shirt 24/7 so dont kid yourself.

@@abcdefksohfosuh9024 it’s a laughable standard that cheats you’re mind into thinking you lift more than you actually can. Same with bench shirts you might as well be using a fork lift.
