This video describes a simple way of programming a semi adjustable articulator using a protrusive bite.
The technique describes the procedure of gauging the horizontal condylar guidance on the Corident CSA 400 articulator. However, this technique works for all open condylar track articulators.

Why do we need to do this? Do we also need to check the condylar angulation to left and right excursive movement?

For a protrusive record can bite registration paste also be used? And by how much does one ask the patient to protrude for the record. Also if lateral guidance is variable for an articulator, how is it adjusted?

It helps to have cross arch stabilization so I would not recommend bite paste... I generally have my patients bite edge to edge that is functional protrusion. I use an articulator fixed L value so no lateral records

use Hannau's formula,L=H/8+12 to get lateral condylar angle.
