Hi All, I'm an old timer radio ham callsign GW6IYP I have been licenced for over 42 years now. I have just bought a UV-5RH Pro Max, I can't get the T6UV Series EN CPS program downloaded from this group to work with Windows 11 also the same with the latest Chirp program, The other question I have is how to keep the display on I have tried altering Menu 6 but this has no effect it goes off after 3 secs. Also I have a UV-5R radio which works ok with Windows11 Any help please, Regards Ray GW6IYP in North Wales (UK)

Hi, I tried with CHIRP doesn't work. I tried with CPS message port can't open. I'm with windows 11 I downloaded the ultimate PL23O3 driver. Is it necessary to have the Baofeng cable. I use au TYT cable.

You need to make sure you have the correct OLD driver if you're using a Prolific2303 chip and Window11

Works with Chirp-Next on Windows if you use the Baofeng 'UV-17 Pro'. Chirp from the Linux RPM Repo's does not have this entry to select yet.

Sorry I haven't watched the full video yet but it seems there's 2 versions, but that still doesn't explain everything.. Got the T6UV prog. Didn't work for me. Got a little PC picture on the radio but failure message on the Computer. Didn't work on my UV-5R either. But Chirp did on the 5R.

You can use Chirp - just Select the UV17pro then you will be able to program the Channels via Chirp

Yeah, just set the transmit power to low and leave the receive power setting on mid to high. Its all easily found in the basic menu options.

NO. you can't disable the transmit PTT like you can on the older UV5r or some other radios.

You need the baofeng 5RM. That radio can transmit on all frequencies including gmrs, ham and possibly air bands. (I have not tried tx on air band with my 5RM).

the programming cable is needed to program via a computer which is the easiest way. or you can try via the keypad but you cant program everything from the keypad.

146.340 would be better for the tx frequency ..... If you gointo the cps and click on vfo mode youll see a spot on the bottom left where you can input a 00.600 offset. And everytime you enter a repeater you just have to click - /+ Our offsets are pretty standard in Canada .600khz either way.

Make sure your cable is detected by Windows and allocated a port number

Looking at the baofeng uk site, there are two versions. Multiband version gives you aviation range 108-136 but you can only TX on 430-440. Triband version doesn’t give you aviation range, but you can TX between 220-260. Unless multi and can be unlocked to support full UHF range somehow 🤷🏼‍♂️

with a direct line of sight, its easy to get a range of roughly 5 miles, plus or minus certain factors. Replace the stock antenna for best results.

With a DIY Yagi-Uda antenna (3 element directional beam), you will be able to get to the International Space Station repeater, so about 250 miles. However you will probably not get much more than 1/2 a mile through a dense city to another hand-held each with a rubber duck. It absolutely depends on antenna, height above surroundings, clear 'line of sight' and the receiving station's properties are included in the equation too.
