The latest trend in the developing world is a worryingly intense fetish with Visual Studio Code, which is a glorified Notepad++ with exceptional plugin support, fueled by a strong dislike of conventional IDEs for being "too heavy". Apparently 10GB of disk space and 500MB of RAM is too much to ask for in times where both RAM and disk space are dirt cheap, so these people complicate everything.

@@foster5902 miles? No... if your on linux you can run c++ code in 5 seconds. sudo apt-get install gcc vim main.cc ... write hello world program then save and exit the text editor vim... g++ main.cc ./a.out ... Hello World! ... Done! Windows is the same way but but not as fluid which it why many developers use linux. Vscode is just another text editor with code highlighting like vim, notepadd++ ect. Technically id you already havw minGW for windows installed you can write a c program in anytext editor like notepad then run g++ on your .cc or .cpp file from the windows console to conpile your peogram. You can make gcc compile for any operating system or architecture its able to even if your arent on the type of OS or architecture.

@gvcallen4 жыл бұрын
This process has been vastly improved with newer versions of VS Code: 1. To setup C++ for MinGW, follow this quick tutorial: code.visualstudio.com/docs/cpp/config-mingw 2. To easily setup C++ projects with tasks, configurations etc. setup for you, download this extension: marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ACharLuk.easy-cpp-projects (I have not tried this personally but I am sure it works as expected) Due to the modular design of VS Code, this process is similar for setting up most "uncommonly used" languages with it. Once you realize the actual design idea behind VS Code, you understand that a relatively quick setup cycle is worth it for the simplicity and modularity you receive afterwards.

Just add the extension "C/C++ compile run" by danielpinto8zz6 and press F6. So much easier. Steps: 1. install vs code 2. install mingw 3. add the path of the bin folder to environmental variables as shown in video 4. add the extensions "C/C++ intellisense, debugging, and code browsing" and the "C/C++ compile run" 5. write download or copy&paste a hello world program, open it on visual studio making sure the file extension is ".cpp" 6. press F6 while the cursor is on the completed program, it should compile and build an ".exe" file

I didn't follow the video that closely but in those cases you would insert a wildcard character into that part of the build settings. Also from what I hear vscode works on a project basis. For example if you are working on a project you run the command from the root folder and it will compile all c, cc, and cpp files into .o files then merge them into an output file

if you are a complete beginner and don't care about how things look, then just something like turbo c++ or an online IDE, there is no autocomplete so you will probably benefit from that too

The editor is so unintuitive/convoluted it takes multiple youtube tutorials just to get a basic setup. This is so typical of MS, sorry to say.

Getting use to any linux distro like Ubuntu etc.. is may be tough but installing C++ on ubuntu is piece of cake. Doing all the same things on windows is exact opposite and that's what made me move to linux distro. sudo apt ... does all the magic. and those who are planning to learn c++ to a great extent, here is some guide: C (Pointers and Recursions) very very IMP. C++ Basics DS and Algo using C++ C++ STL library C++ using template programming C++ DS-Algo again through template programming for a bigger picture C++ multithreading C++11 and C++14 features get used to it, save time and reduces anger Design Patterns and OOPs design using C++ I suggest to keep on doing problem solving and follow channels like Programming Knowledge, CPP Nuts, C++ weekly for great C++ stuff.

question : after i do another new program after this configuration how should i build and run and debbug ?
@medilies5 жыл бұрын
First time create a simple hello world programme like shown in the video then this will become your template for other projects. The cpp and exe files' names will always be the same main.cpp & a.exe but with different content So copy the entire folder Change the name of the folder to your project name Then do ur work

g++ : The term 'g++' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again. At line:1 char:1 + g++ -g main.cpp + ~~~ + CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (g++:String) [], CommandNotFoundExcept ion + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException this error is shown on my vs code

I guess the configuration process has changed with the new VS. It opens an IntelliSense Configurations tab. Can someone suggest how to setup? edit: there is a json file which can be configured.

Do we need to follow all these steps for every new cpp file we create? I mean always edit cpp _settings.json and task.json for every new cpp file?
@blueblue33016 жыл бұрын
No, cpp_properties.json and task.json is used to build project, but not which file. If you need to debug, you need to configure the launch.json file.

{ "label": "echo", "type": "shell", "command": "g++", "args": [ "-g", "${relativeFile}", "-o", "${fileBasenameNoExtension}.exe", ";", "./${fileBasenameNoExtension}.exe" ], "group": { "kind": "build", "isDefault": true } } ] } Adding the following variable to your tasks.json file will make it so you don't have to manually change the file name.

No you can create an environment that intakes a wildcard that will accept all your .cc, .cpp as longas you take the time to set up your environment.

@dvirarazi73516 жыл бұрын
I believe that it appear there since he closed its tab, probably because VS Code assumes that we'd likely want to open it again so it leaves it there for quick access

At 5:48 when he presses enter and when you stop at the right frame, you can find a frame where the console output is in the middle of the output. (There is a frame where just half of the output is seen). I think this output doesnt take more then a few micro seconds I guess, so its really interesting to see that the camera just catched that very moment. #iamfunatparties

When I open my c_cpp_properties.json It looks very different. Should this still work? { "configurations": [ { "name": "Win32", "includePath": [ "${workspaceFolder}/**", "C:\\MinGW\\lib\\gcc\\mingw32\\6.3.0\\include\\c++" ], "defines": [ "_DEBUG", "UNICODE", "_UNICODE" ], "cStandard": "c11", "intelliSenseMode": "msvc-x64" } ], "version": 4 }
