How To Program A Ford F-150 Flip Key Remote Fob 2015 - 2021 DIY Tutorial F150 - 2016, 2017, 2018

1. Insert the first previously programmed key into your F150 ignition and turn the ignition from the OFF position to the ON position (maintain ignition in the ON position for at least one second, but no more than 10 seconds).
2. Turn ignition from the ON position back to the OFF position in order to remove the first programmed key from the ignition.
3. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of removing the first previously programmed key, insert the second previously programmed key into the f-150 ignition and turn the ignition from the OFF position to the ON position (maintain ignition in the ON position for at least one second but no more than 10 seconds).
4. Turn the ignition from the ON position back to the OFF position in order to remove the second programmed key from the ignition.
5. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of removing the second programmed key, insert the new unprogrammed key (new key/valet key) into the f150 ignition and turn the ignition from the OFF position to the ON position (maintain ignition in the ON position for at least one second, but no more than 10 seconds). This step will program your new key to a programmed key.
6. To program additional new unprogrammed key(s), repeat Steps 1 through 5.
This programming procedure will program a flip key remote fob to the following Ford F150 years: 2015 , 2016 , 2017 , 2018 , 2019 , 2020, 2021

I purchased my 2017 F-150 XLT and it came with one flip key remote and one chipped spare key. I purchased another OEM flip key remote online from an out of state locksmith who also cut the key, but of course the remote wasn't programmed. I tried another sequence I found in a different video that didn't require two programmed flip keys and it didn't work. I was about to give up and have a locksmith do it, but I decided I'd try this sequence first. I used the spare key first, then the programmed flip key next. When I inserted the unprogrammed flip key and turned it to "on", the lock cycle initiated and the flip key remote was programmed! I tried all three keys to turn the truck on and they all worked and the two flip key remotes worked to lock and unlock the vehicle. Thank you for this video and I hope this will work for someone else with only one flip key and a chipped spare!

Call an automotive locksmith. They will charge a few bucks but nothing crazy. They can cut the brass key as well. it will still be cheaper then going threw FoMoCo.

The new key needs to match your vehicles options - if you have the remote start option installed, you need the remote start flip key

This partially worked for me… I followed the steps and I did hear the doors when I put it the 3rd key, but for whatever reason it did not program the buttons to unlock and lock my doors. However, the engine does start with the new key. What should I do?

Well, you can actually take the key part out of a working remote and use it to program the new remote. You’ll just have to remove it from the ignition each time like it was attached. So use the whole key to start the process, then take just the key part from your other remote, while holding the plastic part next to it then cycle. Then remove and do again with the new fob. It will work. Then you can go get your key cut whenever

If you are following the procedure closely and the new remote won't program, there could be an issue with the remote remote. Aftermarket remotes definitely tend to have more issues than OEM.

Some vehicles are more sensitive than others when it comes to the speed which you do the steps, most people tend to go to slow. Make sure to remove the keys from the ignition and open and close the drivers door a few times to "reset" in between attempts.

This worked perfectly on my F150, but a word of warning - i did have some trouble getting this finished. Here's what happened: i purchased the blank fob from Amazon. Took it in to a dealer to get it cut. The dealers machine for duplicating the blank destroyed the blank. They tried to say it was because the blank wasn't OEM and that the blade was thicker than on OEM. Bull. I measured with a caliper and it was identical dimensions and materials. Long story short but i got a new fob and this time went to Ace Hardware. The guy told me he would dupe it for $20 but he's not going to be held responsible if the machine ruins the blank. I guess this happens a lot? So it was Proceed At Your Own Risk. Anyway, it went fine and the programming was simple, as described in the video. Just be aware that getting the blank cut can leave you with a ruined blank.

There is always a chance when cutting a key, that for whatever reason the cut was slightly off and the key doesn't work. But they don't have any key fobs to try again at Ace Hardware.......but if they did like Ford does, consider it likely ACE hardware would have corrected whatever mistake and went for a 2nd attempt.
