@@1800fedup I don't know why you wouldn't get your truck first because it's a much greater expense than the operating authority. I run hotshots and ran under someone else's authority until I got my own.

You dont need a truck before you apply for MC#. Once you apply for DOT/MC you have up to 90 days to get your truck and insurance to activate your MC#

u can buy ur truck first no problem authorities are just for people who wants to work on their own and not for a company

@@juanm2337 You have insurance and trans state IFTA tag. Even DOT officers can't typically answer this.. You also gotta have not for hire signage

I'm confused about this issue also. It sounds as if you need the truck first, if you need the insurance in order to complete the authority process. What did you do?

@@4thwardlinden no need to actually purchase the truck in order to get your mc/dot numbers, insurance and other permits. In the filing process though you need to be able to answer what type of vehicle you are going to work with, the weight and where you will be working. If anything changes after you are given all the carrier authority you will just simply update the information online.
