While you may be right about some of these tactics, this is not an overall lesson on how to defend in futsal. Futsal is an explosive sport that requires a person to think actively at all times to where he/she is meant to be. You have made some right and wrong judgements in this. Each scenario requires a different reaction and how the team moves functionally according to your movements. You played against a team which had a lot of heavy touches and thus is right to intimidate and having an offensive approach, although most good teams have a smarter approach and can hold the ball in tight areas, moving the ball past you. Rushing in will only result in a counterattack by the opposition and strong chance of a goal. This approach is relatively correct for soccer, not futsal at all. But good win buddy.

Hey Dylan, nice clips! I have heard some people say to be at arms length from the guy you are covering when he receives the ball because if you are too close he could turn you. Yet you say to be tight on him. What should I do? What do you suggest?

My son told me he remembers what he learned from this video and that he used the lessons learned in his last game. Specifically he mentioned the part about anticipating the pass from the keeper and getting to the spot instead of waiting for it. Apologies for sharing my critisism, I think your defense is very solid. However, there are some moments when you intercept the ball that could've gona either way. In my view, defending is about making sure that the opposing team has as least opportunity to create a chance. Don't get me wrong, interceptions are necessary but the timing when to do them is critical.

1.42 when defender (green) tackles the opponent is not shielding the ball. In fact no part of his body is between ball and defender. He controls (tries to) with instep showing entire ball to defender. He also waits for the ball to arrive rather than move forward and accept that way. The defender saw this and credit for that but it's not great defending. Body position isn't bad, bit too upright but that's probably not a mistake more likely he understands his opponents inability to do anything when ball played into him

Intercepting is good, but it doesn’t always work. When it comes to players that are bigger than me, I never intercept. That’s when I use speed and just try to block the shot/pass.

Depends on your qualities! If you're physical, aggressive, good defender be a defender, if you're calm on the ball, you have a good vision and intelligence, be a mid, if you're a quick player, quick feet, good shot, be a striker! Good luck!

If you want to score goals as a midfielder, you can of course! But if you are the sole defensive midfielder in the team focus on covering your zone and stay at the edge of the box at crosses. I play there and I can get a few shots that way, I also practice free kicks. If you're an attacking midfielder focus on moving a lot, drifting away from your market, getting into dangerous spaces (watch David silva, he's a master) to make killer balls or score!

So if anyone sees this it’s really late but I need somebody’s opinion, but only someone who knows the game, I’ve been playing soccer my whole life I started at 6years old and have been playing ever since, I am 16 now and, I really need someone’s opinion, so I know soccer and futsal aren’t exactly the same sport but it’s fairly similar, I have never been a dirty player and that is genuine, I can’t stand people who play dirty and defend their style of play by saying “don’t be a bitch” like no the rules are the rules but anyway I play soccer and futsal and I recently had an encounter with a player while I defended, I bodied the player hard but without any contact of my hands or elbow etc. I bodied him while my hands were attached to my body and I was sent off, I want to know if it was justified to send me off, because once again as it is in the rules, I don’t not push him, elbow him, pull his shirt, hug the player, I always kept my defending contact clean, please, was it justifiable to send me off?
