I know you don’t have tons of guests on, but it’d be cool if you got Catherine Rampell because of her recent debate with Kevin O’Leary. I agreed with her economic takes the vast majority of the time during that debate, and Kevin could only issue self-contradictory platitudes in response.

Great take. Nice to see someone talking about the cyclical nature of history. I feel like most people think at most 5 years ahead which totally prevents seeing trends like this.

Also being conservative is more of a cultural thing than a class thing I'm a farmer and if you go look at the average commercial farmers family income or net worth it is extremely high compared to most knowledge workers. Because farmers are looked at pretty much across the political spectrum is a good thing You get all sorts of tax breaks and the IRS generally doesn't come after you so farmers do everything to keep their household income to look low if you actually go to any commercial farm owner and you look at their consumption You need to have income in the top 3% (the median household income for commercial farmers in the United States is $253,000 per year and that is in very low cost of living areas) to be able to consume that much. I think the division comes more down to people that work in large bureaucracies or people that work in small businesses were they actually have more impact and want more decision making and it's not the system that they need to keep running in order to keep their jobs.

I think Noah is wrong about this being a 'more conservative decade'. It's wrong to think that stuff is cyclical. I do think we've seen the hyper progressive wave crash, but of the two parties, the democrats are by far the stronger and more functional party, along with being the more politically flexible coalition. Her stances are broadly popular, and people only fail to trust her because of 2020 and the progressive era. If she wins, she can govern as a moderate and build a coalition that will last through the rest of the 2020s, and she will enact progressive policy.

Interesting time for intellectual individuals that are progressive. That grew up with upper middle class, With excellent education! People similar to J.D from military and blue collar backgrounds. Understand these big words… haha. But question 🙋 from a progressive perspective which type of Economics is better? supply side, or demand side…🤔

And now for their crowning achievement: DEI, after reparations of course. Little more than chicken feed for the babbling class.

Why would they focus on class when they are predominantly upper class group and the underclass doesn't share their world views or moral intuitions?

Noah Smith: To prevent my party from unleashing its more radical, malicious elements, it is essential that you consistently vote for my party. Because we are the ones on the right side and if we overstep, you shouldn't push back. You should rather support us with your vote to prevent us from overstepping further.

Big history mash-up. "Progressivism" has meant so many different things to different classes, ethnias, genders, etc.,over time, as to be a meaningless term. Not a very useful discussion.

I love how guest who's a center left liberal, just glosses over that liberals progressives have ruled America since 1900s and somehow its not their fault.
