I'm really glad you played this; I'm really sorry it's so bad. Thank you for suffering for a couple extra episodes to give us more out of this often (and reasonably) overlooked game. I'm not sure there was ever a time and place for something like this to shine, but taken purely as entertainment in retrospect it was a delight - if a painful one. Loviatar approves.

I'm imagining this as not an actual D&D party, but a D&D-based comedy. The party finds a Masterwork Falchion, and Dylan wants it, but can't figure out how to take off his shield, so Jared grabs it and starts swinging wildly because he's not proficient, all while Rose and Vlad sigh in exasperation and get the actual work done. Tadorin shows up partway through like "What did I get myself into?"

Really enjoying this series. I played this game as a kid, before I knew anything about dnd, and found it fairly opaque and frustrating. Seeing it played with any kind of success is a lot of fun!

I love this game. It was one of the first ways I was introduced to D&D. I know the game can be rough and dull with the lack of sounds and how clunky the menus are, but still it's a great game. I would love to see more, but I also understand that it can be a rough watch. I would love to see a full play through of this or even Baldur's Gate 1!

Maybe the thief isnt trained in using falchions? Normally thieves get simple weapons and a handful of martial weapon skills. Maybe remove that falchion and givem that scimitar? Im enjoying this Jared ❤

Always fun to watch, D&D is always great time. But man, the missing fees awful from our end, I can only imagine how Jared must feel. I think Jerd’s character hit at most twice the entire video? For like 1 damage each time. It has to be the weapon at this point, yeah? I can’t think of any other reason that the unarmed dwarf was hitting more consistently and for wayyyyy more damage. Now with more characters leveling up things will hopefully start going along smoother. Keep up the good work, thanks for the video!

Rogues aren't proficient with falchions. IF this follows dnd 3.0 rules, he's taking -4 to hit every attack

Correction: Dwarven Waraxe is 1d10 vs longsword 1d8, so worth using if barely. Masterwork armor removes the armor check penalty, which affects physical skills like climb, jump, swim, etc.; keep in mind medium/heavy armor will reduce a Dwarf to 15 feet of movement

It shouldn't reduce a Dwarf's movement at all. In 3rd edition Dwarves have 20ft of movement but they have a racial ability where it doesn't get reduced by wearing armour or carrying heavy loads. But... maybe that was just a 3.5 thing? Or this game screwed it up. Either one seems equally likely to me.

@@renatocorvaro6924 Yeah I'm not 100% at this point. It's been years and years since I played 3.5... I *thought* they didn't get slowed down but the armor listing shows 20' reduced to 15' (maybe it's listed on the Dwarf specifically).

As far as backstabbing goes, I booted up this game pretty recently and was able to do 11 damage with a flanking dagger, so I'm pretty sure backstab is a thing. My accuracy's still pretty bad, but it seems to be slightly less bad with the flanking. 31:15 The undead guy lost concentration from the opportunity attacks! The game doesn't show it well, but if the name of the spell doesn't come up and it does the little splash it fizzled from concentration/armor failure.

It hurts my soul to see Behr, the competent melee fighter, recruited just to take his gear away, leaving him naked the whole episode no less, and given to the vastly inferior 15 STR fighter. *edit* Oh hey, a kukri! A weapon for rogues! Maybe Jerd will... nope. Still using that two-handed weapon that disables sneak attack. OK.

Jared I think the falchion you're using is 2-handed which is why you're not getting sneak attack

That shouldn't matter in 3.x. What does is that he can't hit because he has a -4 penalty for using a weapon he's not proficient with, and fighting a lot of undead which are immune to sneak attack.

So if my math is right, that Masterwork Falchion is giving Jerd a total attack bonus of -3ish. Probably lower? And it seems that most enemies are sitting at around 15 AC given how often EVERYONE misses. So he pretty much *has* to crit in order to hit. He won't hit much, but it'll make every hit that much sweeter

Did this game come with a big manual? The unsimplified D&D has always confused me without tutorial as I never had an opportunity to do the non video game one. My PC is too old for BG3 but I thought actually throwing virtual D20 dice was kinds diminishing the immersion.

It did not. It came with one of the standard GBA instruction manuals that couldn't have been more than 20 or so pages long. From what I remember, it didn't explain very much.

This was one of the worst games for missing in DnD. It had to be padded somehow since it was so condensed in material. They padded it with difficulty. The PC games are a better version.

It's pretty typical in some of the video games for the devs to add artificial difficulty by lowering hit rate. It's one of those things that drops off as you level up.

This game is just playing with a bad GM. Like, you're just kinda moving your fig around the grid paper because he's not giving you any feedback or drawing it in until you occupy a space, and then suddenly he rolls your initiative for you and sets down his favorite zombie figs, and you gotta guess that this must be some kind of undead that is fighting you because he won't describe them or let give you any usable info when you ask.
