Some Ideas out of my practicability view: 1. Replace those hex head bolts with pivot pins and locking cotter pins. Then you have: A - Better movability/inplay of the joint and "torquing" not necessary like you did at 19:15 , B - easier changeable with the spreader head without tools and C - The shear force is better distributed all around the half diameter of the pin - not on the threads. 2. I'd recommend a form for the spreader to more a stepped slope, maybe with a flat horizontally beginning, so you can pry into narrower gaps and also don't slip out by the axial back force applied. Also you could ground the inside of the spreader to a cutting angle and could use both functions at the same time, similar to the fire fighter-tool. 3. Keep on! Great channel! :)

Also, bolt cutter jaws shouldn't overlap or jamb up against each other. Correctly set bolt cutter jaws stop just short of each other and are aligned with each other. that way they don't chip or damage so easily.

@@davomoto42 quick tweek to the hydraulic pack and you could easily do it by coil operated valves and just use a couple off switches on the tool would be a piece off cake to do it
@jameswyatt1304
@jameswyatt1304 5 жыл бұрын
The twist-ring on the Hurst tools is fantastic; it just swaps the flow to the ports on the cylinder. Absolutely intuitive, much cheaper than electric valves and likely more reliable. That said, having a general hydraulic unit w/electric connector lets you do a panel on the hydraulic press and such too. Modular systems rock!

You ROCK! There are a lot of home gamers that make projects out of pallet wood. I would love to see a rig that would pull a pallet apart without destroying the amazingly aged wood. Something that would clamp the top, middle, and bottom boards all at once and pull everything apart at the connections to avoid splitting the valuable surface boards. OR grab the top and middle boards - then you could flip it to take off the bottom. Something I would be very interested in . Pallets are free and many have unbelievable character.

Use PVC pipe. Extremely easy to work with using very basic tools and can be made into pistons (and therefore piston pumps) really easily. Sure, it won't hold up to proper 3000 psi, but you can run it off a garden hose :) Keeping in mind typical water pressure of 50 psi that's still 150 lbs for 2" diameter piston. If nothing else, make a can crusher or a pasta extruder.

You should use hard pivot pins with cotter pins or snap rings instead of bolts. Or at least bolts with a longer unthreaded section. These are gonna wear out and possibly bend. Also you should probably use bronze bushings so they take the wear instead of the holes.

wow, you could have different attachments like a crimper for large connectors and a hole puncher for sheet metal and a bender for rebar. so inspiring

We call them the Jaws of life. As they're an emergency rescue tool that is primarily used to save people from car accidents in mangled cars or where the perosn cannot be removed through the door, and has to be removed through the roof. They're good because they produce no sparks, aren't noisy, and don't put the person you're tryig to save in even more danger, like other tools wood, i.e. those big metal cutting saws.

This is awesome, always the best content, I just finished a spot welder build but it doesn’t look nearly as good as these projects do! Hopefully one of these days I get my other going too! #shiftwrenchrepeat

24:10 the problem with this design is that you use low pressure to close the jaws. This means that you can only go as low as 0 bars in theory. If you use the extending motion of the piston you can cut with way more force. Edit: Apparently the device was meant for prying, not crushing.

I really enjoyed your video. Very nice work. I have 2 suggestions to make the item more usable, adding a rear handle and a set of switches on it so you can control the fluid while using the unit instead of having another person control it would be really good. Basically just have the line go through your handle. A: You have more control of your tool making it safer. B: You aren't holding the line so less wear on your line and a more stable grip.

Good video, one tip: Get "reversed" threading tools for your lathe (so a L instead of and R for outside threads), and run them upside-down in reverse, so the tool runs from the spindle outwards. Never worry about that shoulder or depth-ing again.

If you add some knurling to the duckbill or spreader tips they will bite better and help with the slipping. Nice job!

Cut some lines in the spreader tips, with some knurling. I worked with a rescue squad with these type of tools, and the lines/knurling, will give you better grip and less slip.

1) Needs a max-stop, so you don't smash and snap blades by pushing the piston too far. Max-stop would stop the piston from going too far. 2) Can you build some longer jaws also for bigger cuts? Like the Jaws-of-Life for example? 3) Maybe build a quick attach head onto both attachments? :-)
