I'm liking the way the Soviets/Russian tooled their ships up to the max. Wherever there was a gap, they filled it in with a weapon system!!!

The Soviet surface ships of the early Cold War always struck me as unique. You can really see, in the destroyer and cruiser designs just how foreign the use of guided missiles was, and how no one was quite sure what would work. The way their cruiser designs went from a gun-central design, to only having them as an afterthought, as on the Kynda, Kresta, and Kara classes, back to a more "balanced" approach using the AK-130. The same sort of phenomenon can be seen in US and other Western designs, but not as blatantly, I think.

One of my favorite Cold War Cruisers my favorite ship of the class is Petropavlovsk

the cruiser kara technically was not the first cruiser with vertical missiles as the first unit was launched in 1968. The first ship was the cruiser Giuseppe Garibaldi modernized in 1961 with 4 vertical tubes containing UGM-27 Polaris ballistic missiles.

In our perspective, the world is experiencing a new cold war. For this reason, we think that the usage of terms First Cold War and Second Cold War are more accurate.

@@DOUGLAS55ish To be fair the US has a pretty poor surface Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) fleet. Mostly relying on ASW sonobuoy helicopters and hull mounted sonars to get the job done (this is no problem since the US has a doctrine of defeating enemy submarines with maritime patrol planes & submarines).
