I finally got time to work on Burt, my 2016 Indian Scout Sixty. I went all-in and installed a Bassani 2 into 1 full exhaust (long, black version), a Trask Intake, and a Power Commander 5.
Not meant to be a DIY video, just taking you along for the ride in the garage. Took me about 10hrs from start to finish including re-checking all the bolts and fasteners.
The video really doesn't do the Bassani 2 into 1 system justice. It's just epic. Combined with the Trask Intake and Power Commander 5 the bike comes alive. The exhaust sounds deep and throaty without being too loud. The intake sound the Trask makes when you get on the throttle is awesome. You can really feel the low end torque increase. All of these parts were about $1300 USD total including 2 new exhaust gaskets from my local Indian dealer.
In all it wasn't too difficult to install these parts. The process was straight forward. I worked neat and clean and the end result is fantastic. I am very pleased.
Still more stuff to come in the future as I squirrel away money for more parts and personalization. The Scout Sixty is a really wonderful bike and these mods so far makes a good bike exceptional.
Still have to hit the 500 mile mark for Burt's first service at my local Indian Dealer. Then it's off to get DynoJet tuned for it's own optimized & customized map. Can't wait to see the dyno chart. Regardless of the power it's made with the mods, it sure looks great!
Long Video, so use the "Watch Later" to pickup where you left off at a later date.
Cheers!
Mike

I miss the good old days of having a fuel petcock on the back of the tank. It made tank removal so much easier and always let you know exactly when you were hitting the reserve.

Imho, the thing that tickles my fancy is that(stock for stock)a Scout Sixty can outrun a 1200 Sportster!! I would think that is daunting to Harley! 🍻

Added same pipes, intake and tuned with same Commander V. ( via watching your install) An investment, but, well worth it. My 18 Scout 60 now turns heads more than before. And for a little less than a 1000 cc cruiser, it thrills me. And that is what matters. I call my little scoot, " a pissed gorilla".

Great video, clear filming of the process and undoubtedly essential viewing for anyone undertaking the process. Beyond that, the Bassani sounds fantastic. I've always loved the Street Bob with the bassanis, they just have a great sound and that scout is a beautiful bike. Well done Mike. A long day but I bet you're delighted with the results. Be sure to keep us in the loop for the dyna stage as well if you can.

For sure, gotta record a video about the tuning results after the visit to my Indian Dealer and tweaking on the dyno. Now I must do the ever so painful job of riding Burt for the remainder of the break-in miles to hit the magic 500 mile point. ;-) Then the Sixty will get sorted and make its full potential power in this configuration. Thanks for watching. Mike

how do you like your octane sir, I have been looking to get one as I want a more aggressive version of the indian scout
@lollandster
@lollandster 7 жыл бұрын
It is very similar to the Scout, but with a more modern and aggressive style. If you test ride both you'll notice that the Octane feels much faster. To me it felt like the Scout needed 6k+ rev to wake up, while the Octane wakes up much earlier. The number one reason I chose the Octane over the Scout is the wheels. The Octane can be fitted with radial tires, while the Scout can't take anything other than high walled radials. I wish it was available in gloss black when I bought mine, the matte paint can't be polished and waxed like normal paint. A big plus is that the Octane is extremely rare where I live, the Scout is not. But that may be a problem in the future when I need to get parts for it.

To get a cleaner look on the tank, you could always use clear 3M vinyl? If you cut it right, it will be completely invisible, and will completely protect the paint from any scuffs or chips

Crackin mods Mike mate,the new tubes sound deeper with a meaningful growl....no dought new maps will appear shortly for the pc5 which obviously will be implemented on dyno set up if not a tinkered custom tune will surfice ... I have a pc3 on the zx and there is just a sweet shop full of custom maps......hopefully tho will be re dynoed later this year . You still piss me off with that lovely big garage mate lol...and nice to see the Trumpet in the background... So you gonna spend a fortune and ship the Scout Sixty over with youreselves for the monster Jurrasic weekend? Ride safe bud and hi to the good wife!
@RenchRanch
@RenchRanch 8 жыл бұрын
Oh man, I wish that I could ship the Sixty over to Ol'Blighty to ride the Jurassic. I'd have to ship Melly's bike to LOL. Way to expensive. Burt goes out for a proper tune this weekend as I just hit the 500mile break-in interval. The Sixty will get a full run and tune on a chassis dyno. Will be interesting to see the results but at this point it's epic as-is. The tweaking will just make a great bike better. The Triumph is a 2007 Speedmaster I picked up second hand for an extremely low price. It's Melly's new bike for when she's ready to move up. Till that time I have a bunch of things to address from a maintenance perspective (one of the reasons I got it so cheap) and to fit the Speedy better to Melly as a rider. So it's going to be the new project bike. Thanks for watching! Cheers! Mike

Yeah i did see the new addition in ya last vid...cus i mixed up the models thinking it was a Mrs cactus America where as it is in reality a copperfish Speedmaster.......what needs doing to it mate?
@RenchRanch
@RenchRanch 8 жыл бұрын
+WEGGY zx12r It needs wheel bearings in the front (doing all of them), new pads & brake service front & rear, install Progressive lowering kit on the front with new seals & gaiters, 11.5" Progressive rear shocks (lowering the Speedmaster 3" total), Maverick Customs low solo saddle, sort out dodgy wiring for front indicators (old bodged install of a light bar), new bars & pullback risers, full service.... Just a few items ;-) Sounds like a lot but a large chunk of that work is to slam the Speedmaster and lower the seat for Melly. The rest is just catching up neglected maintenance. For sure there will be vids. Ride safe bro! Mike

Try one out at a dealer. Indian makes several different handlebar, seat, and foot control brackets to fit all kinds of different riders. They should be able to get a decent fit of you. I am 6"ft even and my Sixty is very comfortable with the stock configuration. I would also try out the Indian Tractor Seat. It will get you a little more leg room. Cheers! Mike

@RenchRanch
@RenchRanch 6 жыл бұрын
Well, a mouse fart is louder than the stock exhaust from Indian... LOL!!! IMHO, the Bassani exhaust isn't too loud at idle or low RPM. If you get on it it will bark out for sure. It has a removable baffle in it. You can re-packe the baffle with more fiberglass and stainless wire to muffle it more. But everyone's opinion of what is too loud will be different. Certainly at idle and low RPM its not too loud for me. Some people don't like the louder drone at highway speeds. But again for me it hasn't been an issue. Many of the slip on exhaust pipes for the Scouts are a straight through design just like the muffler on the Bassani. So when you really get on the throttle many can be very loud. If I'm honest about it, my wife's Triumph Speedmaster and the EPCO Drag Pipes are far louder than my Bassani 2:1! LOL Thanks for watching! Mike

Hi, thanks for sharing your mod ideas on the Indian scout sixty. I am debating between a Indian scout sixty and Harley Davidson Iron 883. I wanted to know if you were considering any of the Harley before your purchase of the Indian, and if you were what made you pick the Indian over the HD?

Before Indian came out with the Scout I was committed to buying a Harley Sportster Forty-Eight. I love the classic fat-tire look. Then Indian came out with the Scout. Loved the styling right from the start. I test rode both bikes and the Scout out classes the Sportster Forty-Eight in every way possible. When the Scout Sixty came out, the lower price made it even more attractive as I would have more money for parts & mods. With the smaller engine it still has more than enough power to give the Forty-Eight a run for it's money. After the Trask, Bassani, and Power Commander upgrade my Sixty is making almost 10ft lbs more torque than the bigger Scout. It pulls like a freight train now. All I can tell you is if you have the chance test ride both. Numbers alone aren't as important but for sure the Scout sixty makes more power than an Iron 883 (78hp vs 53hp and 65ft lb vs 51ft lb). It's making 38% more horsepower and 24% more torque. The engine also revs higher and the torque comes on low in the RPM range. The center of gravity is lower so the Scout handles better and feels considerably lighter. Your comparing 2016 design & engineering to a engine / trans that was designed in 1957 on the Iron 883. Granted the bike has evolved in many ways but in some ways it hasn't. The Sporty still uses a dry sump with a separate oil tank and separate primary oil supply. It's still push rod driven cams and air cooled. For Harley's part they have done wonders to the quality of their engines over time and they are just as reliable as any other brand if cared for properly. The fit and finish on both bikes is very, very good. Either way you'll be getting a great American motorcycle. Just have to give each a try and decide. I still love the Forty-Eight and there are some models of Harley I would love to own one day (the Dyna Switchback is awesome!). I love mine. Take a ride on both and you'll know for sure. Cheers! Mike

Thank you for the awesome reply, I was barely considering the Indian until my friend highly recommend the scout and then I came accross your videos. Okay i will test ride both and decide on that. as price wise they are very competitive. Thanks.

The Bassani sounds beautiful. What sort of power gain did this give you? It may have been in the video, but wayyyy to long to watch it all.

Did you lose any ground clearance when cornering with this exhaust? How's the numbers after tuning? Great video series.. your wife is a great videographer!

I think it's about the same as stock. If your riding is really aggressive I would get the Trask 2 into 1 high mount tracker system! Thanks for watching, Cheers! Mike & Melly

Hi I'm just toying with the idea of getting a Scout. What did the power commander do for you after being tuned on a dyno? BTW love the details you supply and of course the bike.
