We put out the call for donations of food and essentials for Project 35, in partnership with Ginsters, ahead of our third dedicated Project 35 takeover fixture, and we have once again been blown away by the response from the Green Army and wider community.
Our target ahead of the Sky Bet Championship game against Stoke City was to surpass our previous totals. Thanks to your generosity we collected a staggering 1.4 tonnes of produce and £410.20 in donations, surpassing the fan donations of the previous two appeals.
Before the match, Trust staff, Ginsters staff and the Project 35 Pledge 35 volunteers were on hand outside of the Devonport End to meet the community and collect the wonderful donations.
The supplies and essentials were transported to the Manadon Community Larder and local foodbank network to help those most in need.
The appeal comes at a vital time over the festive period where demand is at its highest and the foodbank network is faced with the uncertainty of whether it will have enough resource to meet ever increasing demand.
Dwain Morgan, Head of Business and Impact at Argyle Community Trust stated: “We send our immediate thanks to all fans, home and away, who donated and helped spread the word, and to all those who volunteered with the collections, transportation, and distribution.
“To collect 1.4 tonnes of produce and essentials, over £400 in donations, and surpass our previous totals, is a testament to the generosity and goodwill that we have experienced since Project 35 began."
Ginsters Head of Commercial Ben Causon said: “We were thrilled to be back as a Ginsters team to help with the Project 35 ‘Let’s Can Poverty’ appeal. It is really important to us to see Project 35 blossom.
“We’ve given over 50,000 meals to those in need since the project started. It’s through all of us coming together, Argyle, Ginsters, partners, and volunteers, that makes this all possible."
Project 35 is more than food donations. Activities are taking place throughout Devon and Cornwall during school holidays, free education and wellbeing sessions are provided to children and adults, volunteers are supporting the work of other food charities, with new initiatives occurring throughout the 2023/24 season.
We are also excited to announce that Argyle’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Coventry City on Wednesday, 14 February has been selected as the second, and fourth total, Project 35 fixture.
