My best project ever! And very time sensitive so I encourage you to try it now as Super Bowl is a week away!
If you don't know who I am or what I do - each week I plan to release a new app using no code tools as a part of my #50in50 Challenge. You can see all prior demos on my KZbin channel.
Back to this project to answer the usual questions!
❓ Why this app?
One of a few traditions that I had with friends in Chicago was to play these prop bets during Super Bowl. Now that we moved, I wanted to find a fun way to do this async and thought it would be super fun to build an app that would allow the whole world to have fun playing with their friends, no cash, just bragging rights. And so 72h later SuperProps was born!
❓ How does it work?
Users come in and create accounts, and from there they can join a group or create their own
If you register as a group creator, you will be directed to name the group, set bet limits and then choose the props you want to wager on - from game to entertainment all the way to, that's right - Taylor Swift props
Once you complete this step, invite friends to join, or keep the group open for anyone really
Place bets until gameday afternoon and then follow the results
Once the game ends, all scores and balances should settle and a leaderboard page will be created with points/credits for all members
Very simple, yet very complex, and extremely fun build for me!
❓Tech stack
Lovable for front end
Supabase for backend
Resend for email SMTP and authentication
No AI needed here, and for the purpose of going fast, I did not include Stripe/Plaid for real money or API that fetches the scores when I can do that myself.
❓Things I did for the first time ever
I finally used Resend for email functionality, since Lovable added integration last week via edge functions so I was able to setup a custom SMTP!
Had an SQL script written to preload the database with tons of data points, not complicated but still something that I haven't done!
Setup an admin role without needing to add roles and permissions, which made the build so much easier. I have to continue to ask myself "how can this be simpler", that is the biggest takeaway for me!
Did some coding myself too. I started to write some basic stuff in GitHub as I am getting better at understanding what needs to change. So far it's mostly been design stuff that's basic but it's still progress!
I did this a number of times before, but this is a first #50in50Challenge project which I hooked onto GA and GSC to monitor traffic!
❓Things I plan on working to improve
Potentially further update the list of prop bets once official ones are available
Fix any last minute bugs you guys report to me
Add more "marketing pages" this time that talk about Super Bowl, prop betting etc to drive any potential traffic
❓Challenges
Almost none! I approached this build with discipline, never allowed myself to get carried away by design until I made the app work, and that is the core of success in using AI
There were some minimal UI issues but nothing out of the ordinary
❓Final score
I feel like I did 9/10 on this one. It works and does exactly what an MVP should - bare bones, but just enough. This would be 10/10 if I had perhaps designed things to be more slick, but that's all makeup, the core is phenomenal. I am mind blown myself as well.
Create or join a group, share with your friends, and enjoy the game! See you again in 7 days with the next one!
