Thank you so much, just bought a Mini last week and the handbrake is not working. Since I never had to deal with drum brakes I am now prepared to handle this 👌🏽

Loved the photo of the assembled shoes and springs stuck to the back of the bench. I have a similar photo inside my toolbox lid, held in place by magnets.

Don't ever put grease in a bearing the way you just did. Put the grease in the palm of your hand ,then with a wiping motion, using the heel of your thumb ,force the grease into the rear (large side) of the race, wipe excess off and fit bearing

Great video, but I hope the handbrake cable doesn’t foul on the brake pipes as they originally have 3 bends in (you used 2 bends) - I always use the originals as a template.
@MEDEngineeringTechVideos2 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) There's plenty of clearance for the handbrake cable.

Great video with perfect detail, thank you so much! You mentioned the aluminium drums were wider, would that make the wheels stick out more? Also apart from the weight what are are the pros of using the Ali drums? Dissipate heat better with the fins?

Mmmm… painted back plates. Sooooo much more durable than the powder coating that everyone seems to think is the ideal, even as the metal below quietly corrodes away to dust…. Cheers, Will

Yes, from our experience, the powdercoat flakes off in no time.

Hey, due to some work on my brake system and on my radius arms, my brake master cylinder is without fluid since 3 months now. You think it is bad for the seals inside, or can I just continue my work and it will be fine?

Hi Chap's, enjoying the series so far! With reference to bearings, well it has to be Timken! As I found out the hard way...fitted Gen Rover ones and they wouldn't torque up, so sent them back and then fitted the Timken. Love the pipe bending tool, cool. Will the anti-rollbar be a KAD one, as they seem to be popular? Great stuff guys 😊
@MEDEngineeringTechVideos3 жыл бұрын
Yes we keep the KAD anti-rollbars in stock.

I think you missed putting brakes shoe retainer springs in to hold the shoes in place or don’t they need or have them I don’t know I haven’t had a mini

@@MEDEngineeringTechVideos Thanks MED. Just a question since your one of the best when it comes to Classic Mini building and parts. I have a 998 classic mini with a 12G295 head that is being modified with bigger valves, harden inserts exhaust and new guides. I also have twin SU carbs. What else could I do to get more BHP out of a 998. Would reboring to +80 increase BHP. I'm also thinking of buying a swiftune SW5 cam unless you have a better cam you make.
@MEDEngineeringTechVideos3 жыл бұрын
@@IsraelitesUnited Sounds good. We would suggest the MED HT (High torque) cam for this, which is our take on the 255, and will offer very similar results. It's a popular choice for fast road 998s. When changing the cam, we'd recommend using an Aldon AYPi distributor, which suits the HT perfectly. Also take a look at our stub stack kits with ITG foam filter for the twin SUs. These are very effective. Although this won't increase power, a swap to one of our St1 flywheel kits makes a real noticeable improvement to acceleration on a 998. These bits combined will make for a lively fun road car. Hope that helps.
