How caridac arrest happens.

Cardiac arrest can happen for many reasons. One that I know if is a heart attack. So, you know how you have blood vessels all throughout your body transporting important oxygen and nutrients to all your organs and muscles? You need this oxygen in order to continue working. Your heart also needs oxygen in order to pump properly. If that supply of oxygen to your heart gets stopped or blocked, your heart muscles won't have enough oxygen to be able to continue pumping properly. The pain experienced during a heart attack is the muscles of the heart beginning to die off. When a significant amount of heart muscle dies, you will go into cardiac arrest and collapse. One thing that can increase your risk of a blockage forming is a diet with high cholesterol. Too much can cause a build-up of cholesterol in your arteries. Think of it as being like a pipe, and every time cholesterol goes through the pipe, a small bit is left behind. Over time, that "bit" is going to get thicker and thicker. This causes heart disease, and raises your blood pressure (because the blood has to squeeze through a tighter space). If a blood clot forms in your blood, it is much easier for this "pipe" to get blocked because it already has less space. There are other causes, such as certain drugs, or side effects from certain medicines, that can trigger a clot to form and cause you to have a heart attack. Cardiac arrest is essentially when the electrical pulse in your heart stops working as it should. Your heart's pacemaker sends out an electrical pulse from your brain telling your heart to beat. As a result, your heart could end up in a rhythm that's not normal. It could be spasming and not pumping your blood properly. Eventually, it may stop moving at all (asystole). When you use a defib on someone, you are essentially stopping their heart's electrical activity in the hope that it will stop, and then start pulsing again as normal. Compressions can help get the heart beating again, too. When the heart is in flatline (asystole) you can't shock, but you can keep doing compressions in the hope that the heart will start up again. And of course, you can go into cardiac arrest if you get electrocuted and it goes through your heart, makes your pacemaker go haywire. Hope that wasn't too long!
