Ballistic recovery must be the most euphemistic way of describing “embedded in ground” that I have ever heard :)

Ballistic Recovery needs to be imortalised in the way Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly has become.

what's the point? a balloon can be launched into the stratosphere to shoot a nice long footage, but for some reason people launch single-stage rockets to a low altitude in a few seconds. What's the fun in it? I live in another country where no such hobbies, I really don't know, but I can't even assume, so I ask
@djdynamics292 жыл бұрын
I didn't build a 20ft rocket or an 11,000 pound thrust solid rocket motor just to get pictures of the ground. There is fun in the design, construction, and flight of a rocket. It's a hobby :) Balloon shots are cool, but I find a rocket ascent a bit more thrilling.

Here's a different angle: what's the point in strapping a balloon to a camera and letting go? It takes no effort, is no fun, requires no teamwork or friends, and the balloon just floats up slowly and eventually pops. What's the fun in it? Where's the sense of achievement?

The entire world: I wish people would stop using fish eye lenses on rockets and giving flat earthers new videos to claim 'prove' the Earth is flat. Just one launch with a grid wire in view to prove that the horizon curves the tiniest fraction rather than cartoonishly curving then appearing concave from different angles and they'd never have more fodder! Rocket launchers: Only use fish eye lenses - for no reason - forever.
@djdynamics292 жыл бұрын
Entire world with functioning brains: we don't need to watch hobby rocket videos on yt for proof that the Earth isn't flat. 😆 Secondly, there is a reason fish eye lenses are used. Feel free to use google to find out more.
@wingstrongwingstrong2 жыл бұрын
it is enough to be an ordinary passenger on an ordinary passenger plane and take a picture of the horizon with a quality optic whose geometry can be automatically corrected on PC, then see on a computer how the horizon differs from a straight line. And however, while I consider flat earthers a fake, they work in airports *facepalm*
@CoronaFighter_2 жыл бұрын
There's a reason rocket launchers use fisheye lenses: to capture a bigger view. You don't wanna launch a 20 ft rocket just to get a small frame, you preferably wanna see the whole horizon come into view. A fisheye lense allows that to happen. If anyone wants to prove that the earth is round, they can even take a plane and be able to see the slight curve in the horizon.
@wingstrongwingstrong2 жыл бұрын
@@CoronaFighter_ and if you artificially correct the geometry of the fish-eye image, there will firstly be a loss of field of view and secondly there will be other equally unpleasant distortions. So yes, there's no escaping the curvature, people want to see views and not prove something to someone
@areareare99532 жыл бұрын
Dude, I use a 35mm lens on my camera to capture more of the view. 50mm lenses are pretty much good for portraits straight ahead, but not vistas. Besides, you can't argue with flat-earthers. It's like trying to reason with a cat. It's not going to happen and all they'll do is pee on your lap.
