Project Boat - converting a stern drive to outboard Pt 4

Part 4 of our journey as we convert a clapped out 23 foot Bertram flybridge cruiser called Beast, which had a sterndrive in it. The plan is to rebuild the boat, then stick on the back a great big outboard engine, thus giving us more power and of course more reliability! In this instalment, she's ready for her new engine.

Going back to my water skiing days, we had two boats of a similar size/weight (19 ft) one inboard and the other outboard... the 350 mercruiser was significantly more fuel efficient than the merc 200 outboard. We didn't record exact figures but it was up around 30-40% from memory.

Did you consider a Armstrong aluminium pod? In the USA these pod are OEM on new boats and are the first choice to convert an old boat to outboard engines. Great to see you back. Cheers

Ive got an old Yamaha and a brand new Mercury. The Yam from 2004 is quiet and lightweight and my New Mercury 2019 with latest injection is loud, heavy and faster and feels lika a musclepiece but take more petrol than the Yam. So if I should buy a new engine I stick with Yam.
